Amazing preamp!
Although your system is only as good as its weakest link; the two most important components in an audio system are preamp and speakers. There have been very few preamps that I have come across, that I have actually liked. I have been in audio for over 41 years, so I have seen and listened to many, many preamps, and this one is a wonderful sounding one at that. Deep tight bass, the warm midrange that tubes are known for, and silky highs. The bass and treble controls do what they should do, which is to actually enhance the sound quality. Not all bass and treble EQs do this. Most get in the way of the sound quality. So it is surprising to me that on a five hundred dollar preamp, they function as well as they do. You can remove them from the circuit with a touch of a button if you would rather have no tone controls. The 6N11 tubes are equivalent to the 6DJ8 tube and the preamp uses four of them. If you purchase two of these preamps, you can use the balanced XLR outputs. You actually have to have two preamps to use this function because there is only one XLR output on the preamp. So one preamp would be for the right channel and one for the left channel. There is only one XLR input as well. I use the single ended outputs so I only need one preamp. As far as noise goes?? I don't hear any. As far as build quality goes?? Don't think the cheap price means it's a cheap product. This is a very high quality and solidly built preamp! It's actually fairly heavy too. I have to say, I have never heard a preamp at this price, sound this good. You normally would have to spend at least two times the price of this preamp to get something that is equal.
