Costly, but an original-looking alternative.
I had read positive reviews on this item, however, one service tech told me that they were not very dependable. So...as far as longevity, the jury is still out. Upon installation I am very pleased with the original-style appearance. Even though this was much more expensive than an alternator/generator swap, I just couldn't have my classic car sporting an alternator. Just doesn't look right. So, I bit the bullet and went for the PowerGen. Upon start, it's charging at a nice 14.5 volts. I followed the instructions and installed a heavy gauge ground wire to the engine block, in addition to the small (14ga) original ground wire. I gutted the original voltage regulator and used the tabs just to mount and join the wires...so it all looks 1957. Modified the back plate a little and added a spacer in the front bolt hole to mount to the original bracket.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
