Precise and Accurate Machinings
These require no dressing or filing prior to fitting them together because the machining is so precise and clean. The slot at the muzzle is cleanly cut with the hole in its center. No flakes were found inside any of the barrel shrouds and the barrel's fit inside the cooling shrouds is perfect. I ordered three packs for a total of six to fit-out an early Stuart Tank, which carried five ... leaving me a spare barrel for another model. The price is definitely right for the quality of these machinings. These are exquisite. Don't paint these; it will foul the tiny holes in the shrouds and the muzzle details, too. I use Birchwood Casey "Brass Black" metal finish to blacken these components prior to fitment. Four separate baths of about 30-second duration in the Brass Black followed by a light polishing of the components with a soft cotton cloth between each bath (twirl the part very gently with clean fingers inside a fold of the cloth) serve to blacken the brass a little bit at a time in stages. The Brass Black solution is aggressive and you can see the blackening action while the part is in the pale-blue solution, a sort of boiling action with dark blue clouds forming and swirling around the item. Once removed from the solution, the piece will have a dull black coating on it ... but that will wipe off easily, revealing that it is only partly blackened. As I say, about four baths are required to render the part fully blackened after final polishing with the cloth. This is the very best procedure for making these machine gun barrels look their very best. The end result is a blackened piece which has a deep metallic sheen ... like a finely-blued rifle barrel ... and the effect is that of a real miniature .30 caliber machine gun barrel. The holes stay crisp and there is no need to wait for paint to dry; the item is ready for final assembly. A light touch of gel superglue at the base junction of the barrel assembly (the end where the mounting pin is) joins the assembly neatly without wicking up into the shroud's holes. Once the glue has set, the barrel is ready for installation into your model.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
