Good Product...Comcast does everything to mess it up.

A good modem, fast and good range (2 rooms away and outside). Comcast, though as the provider, does everything in their power to not make it an easy setup! It took hours on the phone for them to drop my old one and add this new one. Then, they switched it back to my old one. Thank goodness I new a little about what they were doing and told them it all was in their setup. Finally, they acquiesced and set it up right. Then, I turned my old modem in and they had the gall to turn it off again. Another hour on the phone to get them to redo the settings. My advice is to be persistent as hell with Comcast because they do everything in their power to keep the $10 modem rental per month. This Arris is a good model and if it includes a battery, all the better! (Note: the Wi-Fi light blocks continually, but it is totally operational...Comcast will try to tell you otherwise.$

Good Value But Xfinity Will Not Provide Installation Support

Bought this modem/router for a friend who is not able to install without help. She asked Xfinity to send a service person to install it but the service person claimed installation failed because the system showed the modem was already registered to another owner. I spoke with the supplier who indicated that Xfinity does not do a good job of updating its data base and was instructed that the modem MUST be self installed. In addition he suggested that the backup battery should be removed until setup is complete to erase memory of past usage. Installation was successful when we followed these instructions.

  • Quite a bit of interaction with Comcats before I got it to work

Once installed and operational gateway works fine. But I had to go through quite an ordeal before that happened. 1. When I first connected modem it would not work. 2. Contacting Comcast and providing them with MAC addresses got me to the point that the modem had been discarded and destroyed. Support told me to bring device to store. 3. Brought device to store. after some back and forth (the initially thought modem was stolen but admitted that some of their branded modems are sold to re-sellers. They entered trouble ticket and told me I would get call. 4. Received such call 4 days later telling me that modem had been added to my account. 5. Connected modem but still would not work. a long call to technical support had them reset and configure first modem, then telephone part. So after many hurs and a trip to store modem now works. I happen to be an expert on cable industry so I was happy to go through this process. However, this is not for a beginner!

  • Giving Concast less money

Instructions from the vendor were very clear and the actual set up was easy, HOWEVER, the tech person at Concast said it was still registered with them and had not been deactivated. He told me I needed to go to an Xfinity store to activate it. I went to the store and they said I needed to call tech support. Second attempt with tech support worked. Since then I spoke with an independent computer tech and was told after Super Storm Sandy Concast replaced many units for free. I can only surmise where the vendor got this unit. But, it works, I'm not being charged a rental fee, although the subsequent bill from Concast was wrong and I had to remind them I no longer had a rental modem. And the cost was less then half of Best Buy's price.

  • Just as fast and saves me $10.00 a month!

Item cost about $80.00 and was well packaged and received on time. It included the modem, power cable, network cable and instructions. Following directions included with the "Arris Xfinity TG862G TG862G/CT Docsis 3.0 Telephony Wireless Cable Modem Router" made it easy to set up. I literally plugged it in and waited about 65 minutes (as the instructions said to do) and then turned on my computer and started my browser (Chrome). I was immediately redirected to Comcast setup. I clicked on "CONTINUE" a few times and I was up and running. This process was an additional 10 minutes or so of rebooting and waiting. No phone calls! I then turned everything else on one at a time and all is up and running. It looks almost identical to the Xfinity-Cisco dual-band I am replacing but is physically smaller. It, however, has all the features I needed/wanted: Docsis 3.0 and dual phone lines. It also has 4 network connection ports out the back as well. I did a speed check just to make sure and I am doing just about the same as before...maybe a bit faster. I am doing about 180 Mbps download and about 25 Mbps upload. Everything works. This is not a dual band Modem (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz) only 2.4 GHz. I don't use the Xfinity modem WiFi anyway and use a much higher quality ASUS Router and Extender for that stuff. All works just fine. The ONLY issue I had (and it is a very minor issue) is that when I received the modem it was not reset to factory conditions. I still had the previous owner's WiFi information in there. I couldn't see anything but the Network name but I had to hold the reset button down for about 20 seconds to preform a "factory reset." I felt this should have been done by the vendor by, as I said, it is a VERY MINOR ISSUE. I would by it again.

  • Cable box

This box condition was as described. (New , unused) Setup connections were easy until I had to contact TWC. We tried for 60 minutes to get the internal phone to work. The box powered up for 5 minutes with phonr then stopped working. TWC tech voided the phone from this new box and i continue using the old box for phone. New box saving $10 per month and at that price 6 months is payback period.

  • Used, and supposedly blacklisted, but I got it to work without issue. It's fast!

As others have said - here are the keys to getting it to work. 1. When you first get the modem - use a paperclip to press the reset button at the back top of the modem for a full 30 seconds. Don't skimp on those seconds - a short push will restart, but not reset - so go long... Don't mess with the modem settings at all after this! 2. When you signup for the service you must choose "Self install". 3. Attach the cable to the Modem/Gateway, and a network cable from the Gateway to your computer. 4. Open a browser, and you will be asked for your Account number, and your home phone number you gave them when signing up. 5. The Modem/Gateway restarts... and that's it - you're done! No need to even wait for the "Self install kit". 6. For best performance, be sure to login to myxfinity and disable the xfinity hotspot, unless you like strangers using your equipment... 7. Best of luck to you.

  • Arris TG862G/CT

This modem is very efficient. It has built in wifi. To get an even stronger connection it has four ethernet ports that can be used. I connected my smart television directly into the ethernet and it makes streaming even more stable. It also allows for stronger wifi connections to other devices with less devices connected to wifi.
