Good charger, but is NOT a fast charger!
There are fast 1-hour chargers with a visually identical design. On fast chargers, the central open slot is claimed to be a feature that helps cool the batteries, which can get quite warm during a fast charge. I thought I was getting a fast charger, but this is a conventional charger that takes 4-8 hours to charge most cells. Yes, this information was in the description, but I gave 4 stars because I wish it had been more easily seen. It feels like a bit of bait-and-switch going on here, between the photo and the description. Not fraud or lies, just misperceptions that easily could have been avoided. This charger does provide 8 slots, which was my primary need. It has the added benefit of not having an external power supply: Its cord plugs directly into the wall. Didn't charge the batteries. I bought rechargeable batteries and this wouldn't recharge any of them
The red light came on when the batteries were placed but they weren't charged even though the green light indicated the charge was complete. I bought rechargeable batteries and followed the instructions to include not using different sizes. Waste of money.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

This charger works GREAT
For the money this charger cannot be beat. A very good value it charges ( 8 ) total of two sizes of batteries AA + AAA Mixed if need be...real well. Indicators show state of charge for each pair..Red Amber + Green for fully charged. Many others only charge 4 at a time and they cost more.

No springs so nothing breaks, light, great value and has lasted!
NO SPRING LOADED SLOTS!!!! Superb for AA and AAA without pushing down a spring loaded base plate to fit whichever size you need....I have two from a major battery maker that will charge up to 8 of either size that have broken now when the spring comes un-clipped or breaks off the flimsy attachment arm. And I only used them as intended. This doesn't have springs, I've traveled with it, left it out in the workshop in the Phoenix summers, you name it...and it still works perfectly! LED's are bright, color change indicates state of charge. I've got no cons to speak of.
