This adaptor worked great.
I was trying to get footage off my old mini DV tapes. I borrowed my friends camcorder. I bought a mini firewire 4 pin to firewire 800 cable, and it wouldn't connect at all. I found someone online saying to use a mini to standard 400 cable and then this type of adaptor. I did. And it connected right away. Hope this helps someone else out. I'm using a 2010 macbook pro.
