A must to make your Ruger Mini eat any kinds of ammo
I got this firing pin for my ruger mini 30 with the 580 series. It is made of stainless steel and it looks well made with no tool markings. The fit was perfect. I just removed the factory pin and swapped this new one in. The length of this firing pin was slightly longer than the factory. This enabled my mini 30 to eat up all kinds of ammo including steel cased ammo with hard primers. No more misfires for my ruger. Fixes the Mini-30 Failure To Fire problem!
I dropped this right into the bolt assembly of my Mini-30 and put it back together. Fit like a glove... or a finger inside a glove. It fit beautifully. I immediately loaded up two boxes of Golden Tiger BT FMJ that I was having loads of FTFs (Failure To Fire) with, went to the field, and I shot 40 rounds without a single FTF. This is WAY different from what I was experiencing with the stock Ruger firing pin. With the stock pin, I was getting around 2-5 FTFs per box, and that was unacceptable because I had like 600 rounds of Golden Tiger that I had bought as they are very cheap when purchased in bulk. Anyway, Golden Tiger was the worst surplus ammo I was firing. I'd used Wolf, Tula and Silver Bear and they were all good, with one FTF every box or two. But now I have 0 FTFs and I cannot be happier with this new firing pin that fixes this problem! Kudos to these guys who make this product. Best replacement out there for the Mini!
I believe this is the only non-OEM pin out there. If you're handy with a few basic tools, then you'll be able to replace your firing pin without having to send the bolt back to Ruger. I'm not sure of the warranty considerations. I do know that Ruger is fine with people taking the bolt down on their own for maintenance. This stainless steel is a little harder than Ruger's stainless, which, in this case, is a good thing. It's definitely more durable. While some minor fitting may be required, the pins I ordered dropped right in and provided the slightly longer protrusion I was looking for. High quality of manufacture is evident. Mini 30 eats steel now
Very good quality steel. Mine took quite a bit of fitting, I used a magic marker to ink it and check for high spots and slowly worked it down with very fine grit sand paper and emery cloth. Seems to have solved the light hammer strikes on steel ammo, I've shot about 75 rounds of Golden Tiger with no miss fires. normally it would snap on about every 3rd round or so. Definitive fix for the mini 30!!
If you have a mini 30, you know the agrivation of it's flawed firing pin and it's inability to fire imported steel case ammo, this is the solution. Though it will drop fit *some* rifles, most require a small amount of fitting, mainly narrowing the pin diameter with crocus cloth. However pin protrusion length is perfect. A cheap investment.
If you are going to shoot steel cased hard primed Com-Bloc cheap ammo, this is the way to go.I researched this on Mini 30 & 14 forums and shooters recommended this firing pin. S.S. Firing pin for Mini-14/Mini-30
Working fine in my Mini-30 (7.62x39) but required about 2 hours using blue layout dye, fine grinding wheel and 600 grit wet/dry paper to fit in the bolt. It was not a drop in but I am able to shoot cheap Russian & Chinese steel cased ammo now. Great fix for firing steel ammo through mini 30
