Notes(2-CD Set) This 40-track collection traces the genius of Django Reinhardt, the opening four numbers from 1934 reveal the Hot Club's effortless mastery of familiar repertoire, followed by "Ultra Fox." CD1 closes with the quintet enthusiastically running through two more Reinhardt/Grappelli compositions "Minor Swing" & "My Serenade". Django plays a delicate duet with Grappelli on a reprise of "Manoir de Mes Reves" and finally the guitarist performs a pensive unaccompanied reading of his masterpiece "Nuages". The first half of CD2 takes us up to the wartime breakup of the Hot Club, opening with Grappelli accompanying Django at the piano on "Sweet Georgia Brown", followed by a fine guitar solo on "Tea For Two".

  • A great value

I bought this one in memory of my music teacher in High School. He had lent me his album so I could appreciate great guitars playing by the Best as far as he was concerned. Django was the best. I concurred. I put the CD on a Sunday during supper, everyone was speechless. They all applauded and thanked for a great meal and entertainment..
