I have a large granite birdbath, the less than 100 watt heaters barely keep a small hole in the middle thawed out during the winter, and the 500 watt heaters sold in farm supply stores use way too much electricity. This 200 watt heater is the perfect size for my 3 gallon granite birdbath, keeping the water ice free all winter for the birds and squirrels. We live in mid-Michigan and can see temps down to -10. The one small complaint is that the cord is pretty stiff, so I zip tied the cord to a piece of stainless welding wire that I pre-formed to go around the edge of the birdbath and keep the heater flat on the bottom of the bath.
Easy to set up. Drop in bucket and plug in electric. I use it for my geese and ducks. I have a nipple waterer for them. They make a mess out of any other water and this gives them guaranteed clean water at all times. Decided to try dropping this heater in to keep it liquid all winter. Works great.
This item has a coil spring that limits its use to deeper bird baths or buckets. The bird bath we have is only four inches deep and it wonβt lay flat.
