  • Finally, after a century, Mr. Maltin, has solved the final mystery of Titanic. Case Closed.

This is the most important documentary to own if you are at all interested in Titanic. It finally, and completely, closes the case of why the Titanic struck the iceberg. So many myths have cropped up over the century. It is difficult to separate fact from fantasy. For instance, the crew was well seasoned, the ship was highly maneuverable for her size, and responded well to her helm. her construction was first class for the age, The rivets were of the best quality. Crow's nest lookouts could spot an iceberg twenty minutes away on such a clear night. All ships normally traveled maximum speed through ice fields, binoculars are more of a hindrance than a help in spotting icebergs due to narrow fields of view, &etc . What killed Titanic was an unseen "Fata Morgana" mirage effect that turned the cold Labrador currents spreading across the shipping lanes literally into a killing field. They had no clue of the unseen danger ahead. Tim is an excellent detective who, after a century, successfully solve what happened on that clear, freezing cold, mill pond ocean.
