Best For The Money
Have used countless close quarter combat scopes and optical devices on various military type and grade weapons for over a quarter century. This includes the cheap models that I would to use as fishing weights all the up to the top of the line Trijicons and Leupolds. Concerning this scope, it is probably the best you can get for the price paid. It can be often found for around $300.00 which is a steal. You will have to buy a good mount for it and I would suggest the Burris P.E.P.R. models as a good, solid cost effective choice. There are better models of course but again, for the value it is a best buy also. The light intensity knob is great by the way. With every other click an on/off switch, settings stay where you want them. The scope can be used at 1x and works like an holographic sight with the added benifit of being able to zoom up to 4x for longer shots. The only negative I would like to mention is the reticle size. Since it's in the rear focal plane, it does not enlarge and covers a lot of target at longer shooting distances. Undoubtedly, placing the reticle on the front focal plane would cost a little more but it would be worth it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great for shotguns or combination guns like Savage 42, because at 1x it's like a red dot sight, at 4x it's a scope!

Set at 1x, this Burris scope acts like a red dot sight that works with or without batteries, so it's great for the shotgun barrel of a Savage Model 42. At 2x, 3x, or 4x it's a riflescope, great for the rifle barrel of a Savage Model 42. Another use would be on a hunting shotgun, as you could dial in 4x when turkey hunting, deer hunting, or bear hunting, then switch to 1x for hunting waterfowl or even skeet shooting! The Burris MTAC reticle (nicknamed the "donut of death") works with our without batteries, because when it's switched off (or if the batteries die), the reticle is still visible; it's just black instead of red.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great scope!
This is a great scope! even after the batteries die you still have a reticle inside of it. I can adjust it all the way to my prescription so I don't have to use my glasses . also on one power it's a really nice close combat with both eyes open scope, especially when the red LED light is on. Awesome Combo
I was torn on what to go with for optics. I was considering a red dot, but then thought there would be times I would want magnification. To purchase a good quality sight and mount, then buy a good quality magnifier and mount would have been quite expensive. I read the reviews and owning a couple other Burris scopes I decided to take a chance on the MTAC. I am so glad I did! It has the quality of Burris with the function ability that I was looking for. Best ever
I was so impressed with the Burris MTAC scope I have since bought another MTAC for another rifle of mine. The optics are bright and clear, so bright and clear I have not had a need to use the illumination feature. At 1x power the CQ reticle can act as a red dot where you can keep both eyes open. Since that is the case...having the FastFire III on top seemed redundant so I bought a Burris Timberline 4.5x14x32 scope and another perp mount and then mounted the FastFire III on top of that scope. Worked out great as I now have distance and close quarters covered on the same gun. The perp mount is solid and puts the scope at the correct level for proper cheek weld on an AR-15. The FastFire III results in having to break the cheek weld for more of a chin weld but after using it, you get used to it and it is a non issue, at least for me. I have used the FastFire III on several guns, mounted it on an AR-15 carry handle and even on my CZ85 pistol. Combine all this with a lifetime transferable warranty and it is some incredible optic hardware.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
