About this product

Product Information

With their studio-quality sound, the black Samson SR850 headband headphones allow you to hear your favorite performers the way they intended to be heard. This professional headset features a self-adjusting headband and semi-open-back design, making them comfortable and secure to wear. These reference headphones were designed by Samson to deliver an excellent reproduction of studio recordings within an expansive sound stage. To achieve this audio quality, this professional studio reference set features two 50-millimeter drivers sandwiched between dispersion plates and acoustically-sealed chambers. The Samson SR850 headband headphones feature plush velour ear cups that add comfort and prevent ear fatigue, which makes them great for studio sound engineers trying to tweak a performance. The Samson SR850 headphones feature a semi-open design to enhance ambient listening. Open-back headphones provide a better sound stage and more accurate high frequency response when compared to closed headsets. This also means that they leak more sound into the environment, so they are best enjoyed at home or in a private environment, where your music won't disturb others. One of the biggest features in the Samson SR850 studio headphones is the set of 50-millimeter drivers, which are larger than on most models. Larger drivers in a set of headphones are comparable to the size of a stereo system's subwoofer; they have more power, however, and can reach the lower bass frequencies much more easily. This model has an impressive frequency response of 10Hz-30,000Hz, allowing the lower bass frequencies to come through loud and clear. With an impedance of 32 Ohms, these headphones don't require a lot of juice to power them, so you can listen with your mobile or laptop and enjoy top-notch sound quality. Headphones that have a higher impedance than 32 Ohms need more power to get up to listening volume, meaning you will have to crank the volume pretty high to get to a good listening level. This headset comes with a 1/8 - 1/4-inch adapter, letting you plug it directly into an audio interface. The regular size 1/8-inch plug is the one that plugs into mobile phones, laptops, and most other devices. The Samson SR850 headphones come with a 10-feet long cable that allows you to easily move around your home or studio. The Samson SR850 studio headphones are made of sturdy plastic that allows you to take them with you to work or play without worry of breakage. This headset shines when it comes to comfort and wearability. The self-adjusting headband applies almost no pressure on the top of your head, distinguishing itself from most models on the market. The velour material on the ear cups is very comfortable, and unlike the leather featured on most headphones, it helps prevent the ears from sweating. This material, combined with the semi-open design, allows the ears to breathe better, making for longer listening comfort. This set of headphones features an impressive audio sound with a wide dynamic range and a punchy, clean bass that's neither weak nor muddied. The treble is clear and high, with crystal notes and good separation. The Samson SR850 headphones provide listeners with a powerful sound experience along with a comfortable design to allow for hours of listening pleasure.

  • Another Good Review of the Samson SR850

There were a lot of good reviews of these open back studios headphones already. Im adding mine, to note that the bass frequency response in these goes down to 10hz. (Dr Dre beats stop at a paltry 20. My discontinued but beloved Sony mdvr700's went down to five.) so as far as listening to youtube or music these are for the price fantastic. Now, for studio monitoring, if you have the common need to really save up for the proper sets of actual speaker monitors, plus dj proper phones, plus the bass traps for the corners of your room, then you can get a little ahead for the time being by putting your money toward all that and buy these for the cheapie. Just a GAS approach from someone saving for all kind of other hardware gear, and found these to do the job for the interim.

  • Exceptionally fine product

I'm not a pro musician, but love music and have fine devices to produce hi-fi signal to the headphones. So I just decided to check if the comments on the Internet that they are more than fine as a monitor-type... Since I have a bunch of other fine headphones to compare them with: AKG, Beyerdynamic, Grado, Sennheiser, I found them performing exceptionally well and well buit w/o a burden of the price tag of another one. Freq, details in all range, no mushy sound. They have a normal amount of bass except real lows, so do not worry about "noname" illness to hammer each sound in your head. In this case you might save a ton of money and be happy as I did :)

  • Very good! Surprised Considering the price.

As others have said for the price you get for these are outstanding. I was looking for great head phones for my home studio. Something that would amp up my mids and other things that I miss from the speakers so I can mix and master my tracks better. Obviously these are not super top notch, but for what i need these are perfect and like I said the price is just right!

  • nice mixing phones

got these as a lightweight, inexpensive headphone for mixing in my home studio. They are lightweight, comfortable, and I believe the sound quality is excellent. All frequencies seem well defined, and if anything they may be a hair bright, but not overwhelmingly so. I am coming to really like Behringer's pro audio products - recently bought an audio interface with killer preamps for a scandalous price - good phones, especially for the money.

  • Budget stereo phones

Excellent soundfield, accurate frequency response, comfortable lightweight and velour earpads. I bought these after using many other headsets, including AKG monitor cans, and the recent Superlux HD681 which sound almost identical. I am impressed at this price or at any price, that this quality is achievable. Certainly as clean and spatially correct as my AKG monitor headsets with more bass than the neutral AKGs which is to be expected. Still a very well-balanced sound as I was very impressed with the Superlux which look very similar, after careful listening these seem to have a very slight edge in the high frequency range, although this could be a variation from model to model as otherwise these sound almost identical to the Superlux which are also pretty impressive.

  • Buy these headphones

Great headphones for mixing or to just listen to some music. The open back design helps cut down on the proximity effect. I use these to set up patches on my Axe Fx II, and they sound great coming through the p.a. Or my frfr speaker.

  • Very pleasant surprise!

I was recording drum tracks and scratch tracks with my drummer. To minimize bleed, I didn't have my voice amplified. Just put my voice through the headphones. This gives you an incredibly natural sound. Your ears will hear your voice like you aren't wearing headphones. You almost forget that you're even wearing them! =D

  • Amazing

These are amazing. Very very good flat response. Clear and crisp highs, strong mids and very very clean bass. I know most people say these lack bass but that’s not true at all, they are amazing. They’re also very comfortable. Really light weight. I use these for mixing in a studio, I recommend them 100 percent.

  • Great sound, great price

It's hard to fault these cans. I bought them for mixing in my home studio, and they provide an accurate soundstage for positioning and levelling tracks. They look their price, but sound several orders of magnitude better than that.
