Highly effective inexpensive retro wound treatment
Mercurochrome due to its antiseptic properties is used widely in the treatment of burns and blisters. Though there are many other better antiseptics in the market, the cost of Mercurochrome makes it more practical and viable to use. Mercurochrome is widely researched and used in the treatment of superficial as well as deep burns. One such research study proves that Mercurochrome can effectively remove scars in the case of superficial burns and minor wounds. In this study, 1% Mercurochrome (1:1 mixture of Mercurochrome 2% and normal saline) is applied with a sterile cotton swab over the burn/blister/wound and then a dressing is done. For a few days, cotton dressing is done to absorb the discharge from the wound/burn. After this phase, gauze dressing is done and changed daily.
