The radios have a voice-activated option and 3 hands-free modes for use in complex situations. Other features include keypad lock, silent operation, and battery life extender for safe, long-term power. This radio comes with a suite of accessories that include charger and belt clips. The Midland LXT600VP3 Two Way Radio is suitable for camping, hiking, large event staff, or any outdoor activity where long distance communication would be valued. The range of the Midland LXT600VP3 Two Way Radio is as much as 30 miles in ideal conditions with little or no other radio or wireless interference, and no concrete, metal, or other dense obstacles between users. In a populated urban environment, the effective range is typically less than 0.5 miles. Channel dispersion for the LXT600VP3 is 22 standard channels and 14 extra channels, for a total of 36 total channels. The Midland LXT600VP3 radio can be powered by either the rechargeable battery pack (included in the accessories), or by 3 AAA batteries. This handheld two-way radio has 5 selectable call tones, Roger beep tone, channel scan, auto squelch, Out-Of-Range tone, a Hi/Low power setting, and a backlit LCD display. good little radios for this price
If you can live with the barebones "just the radio and the belt clip" and supply your own AAA batteries, this is a perfect radio for you. Documentation is online and you need to familiarize yourself with the menu system that is similar on all newer generation if GMRS radios. The manual does not explain what the channel number 23 through 36 do, the first 22 are the standard GMRS and FRS simplex channels. Life Saver Radio
We live in a "dead zone" for cell service and the barn is too far away for the landline. I take care of an elderly gentleman and he gets worried if I spend, what he thinks is, too much time in the barn. He worries about me and I about him. I had to walk back to the house time after time to check on him. Wow, what a difference these radios have been to us. Now he can talk to me while I do the chores, or just check in once-in-awhile. Really nice... Pros: The reception is very good...like he's standing right there next to me...No distortion or background noise at all. I don't need the distance, so I haven't tried that yet. Maybe I will get static at further distances. What I like most is the ease of the transmit key and the clarity of the voice. I like the volume key at the top and not on the side. The radio is easy to set up or use right out of the box...except for selecting a channel, of course, and setting the volume. It's small enough to fit in my pocket and light weight. I love to complain.
I really like complaining about crappy products but I can't find anything to criticize about this midland radio. Right out of the package I dropped it on a tile floor and it survived and the signal transmitted a little over a 1 mile in a crowded residential neighborhood, that's twice what my cobra CB can broadcast. T61VP3 X-Talker are just right.
These are just right. This seems to be the lea$t with a volume/on-off switch of the X-Talkers. We needed this to keep in touch when driving 2+ cars in caravan(even hands free is problematic when driving a motorhome &/or towing a horse trailer in remote regions), or when out of sight at a camp ground. If you need something with greater range CB or cellular(if there is service) would be a better choice. They do NOT communicate THRU hillsides or dense forests.
