Reviews"The world has a great writer in Erich Maria Remarque. He is a craftsman of unquestionably first rank, a man who can bend language to his will. Whether he writes of men or of inanimate nature, his touch is sensitive, firm, and sure."-- The New York Times Book Review, "The world has a great writer in Erich Maria Remarque. SynopsisConsidered by many the greatest war novel of all time, All Quiet on the Western Front is Erich Maria Remarque's masterpiece of the German experience during World War I. I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. . . . This is the testament of Paul B umer, who enlists with his classmates in the German army during World War I. They become soldiers with youthful enthusiasm. But the world of duty, culture, and progress they had been taught breaks in pieces under the first bombardment in the trenches. Through years of vivid horror, Paul holds fast to a single vow: to fight against the principle of hate that meaninglessly pits young men of the same generation but different uniforms against one another . . . if only he can come out of the war alive. An unvarnished, realistic view of WWI from the eyes of a man who was a part of that historitcal event.

Used books are such a great item to purchase. New or used, you get the same content! this item was in great shape, the price was exceedingly fair. Just a great deal all the way around.

  • Top critical review

Great book could have been great!

Book came underlined, written on many papers, etc. Should have gotten more expensive one. My problem, not yours. Looks like great writing.

  • Not a boring book about war and old people

Forced to read in school for a class, I was expecting a boring war book. Was surprised by the depth of character development and by some of the harder to swallow truths of war. The characters were my age at the time. I remember returning to class the day we had been assigned to read the one scene—if you’ve read it, you know the one—we all sat down in complete silence, only looked at each other to say WOW we were not prepared for that. Right in the feels.

  • Wow.

By far the best book I have ever read. It's a chilling masterpiece and an extremely sad account of the savagery these young men had to endure. Anyone even mildly interested in history or in the darkness of humanity will find this book heartbreaking, yet breathstopping.

  • Very Content

Only part way through, very compelling. Discovered it on a list of the top 100 books that are a must to read. As to the seller, exactly as described, great shape, a bit of underlining inside but very little. Very happy, recommended.

  • Best War Novel Ever Written!

What a heart-breaking story, I'm glad I read it. It is relevant today as it was 100 years ago. So very tragic for these young men. Ch. 9 especially wrecked me.

This book was purchased for a friend so I haven't read it. She previously read it and wanted a copy to keep in her library, and recommended it to me.
