A glimpse of a long ended genre of coming of age film making from Lord of the Flies to Summer of '42
I had heard about this film since I was 15 when it came out. In spite of the liberalness of the early 1970's this film was considered "extreme" in its content and use of nudity. Having never seen it, I was delighted to obtain the rental version that is no longer available to investigate this film for myself. The quality and price of the DVD are its chief redeeming points.
There is little doubt that the comments and public reception of the film are merited; by the "politically correct" foolishness of the past quarter century, this film would not have produced, but for the early 1970s, the concept of innocent nudity was tolerated as a hangover concept of "boys being boys".
As to the film plot, well, there isn't any - just a jumping around from clothed, unclothed - and there isn't much rhyme or reason. What the "Lord of the Flies" began, this film is, most likely, the conclusion of that era of "coming of age" genre.
