About this product

Product Information

The Higo no Kami folding knife measures 183 millimeters with a 75-millimeter blade. The history behind the knife dates back to 19th century Japan. It involves a blacksmith who improved a basic pocket knife by adding a simple lever. This small change made the knife much easier to open and close, making the knife unique and in demand. The knife was named after the lord of Japan's Kyushu region. These knives are handmade by the guild maker, Nagao Seisakusho.

    You get your money's worth

Pros: good steel, keeps the edge, and the mechanism is so simple it cannot fail. Cons: the blade's edge sits on the handle when closed, so its prone to dull out faster, the handle of is bent much tighter at the joint then on the test of it (not a flaw in itself, but it's annoying), and the bolt wobbles a bit. Overall it's a good knife that will last for quite a while.

    Novelty knife Only.

Fit and finish is completely lacking on this knife. I understand keeping costs down, but this extreme is completely ridiculous. The blade isn't really sharp and is extremely off center. This isn't easy to tell, as the knife handle isn't bent strait. It also offers glorious metal on metal action. Yes folks, no washers or unsightly ball bearings to bother with, just good metal on metal action. It has a wonderful grinding feel when you open it. If your just looking for a inexpensive knife for a day out, buy a opinel.

  • My Second is coming...

I loved my first higonokami pocket knife afters carrying for many years I lost it in an auto accident, I bike ride in different places and have a lot of problems with mutts that don't know their boundaries, thankfully I have never had to use it but sould of, just torn pant legs, anyway it is very thin and easy to conceal in pocket, just purchased second, Love these knives!!!!

  • Simple, but usable

Good sharpness. Small so ideal as a just in case knife in my backpack. The handle is a little strange in relation to other type of pocket knifes, but it fulfills its function.

  • Very nice knife for very nice price

Great item for the price. Blade is sharp enough. Knife looks very nice. Metal handle is not most comfortable but for such low cost knife it is great. Simple knife is good kinfe.

  • Super sharp.

I have been using this little lightweight masterpiece now for about a month. I cut everything from string to braid fishing line and have even used it as a grafting knife. You need to make sure you rinse well in HOT water to remove and stains or juice from oranges and lemons etc as they will stain the metal. Apart from that..I love it. Best $10 I've spent on a utility knife.

  • Great little knife

This was a replacement for my first higonokami knife I lost. I love this as a pocket knife; very slim profile, yet a durable blade that really holds an edge well. Great little blade and the price is hard to beat.

  • perfect pocket knife

very sharp knife, it's not bulky, so it wont be heavy in your pocket. The only thing which I can say, is that you cannot use it in seawater since it shows some stains of rust on the blade which can be removed with some polish.

  • good knife for its price

It came keen out of the box. It still is keen to this day, the only problem I have with this knife is that it kind of has a brownish coat already after I only had it for 4 days...
