This is a Niles Audio AC-3 remote controlled AC power strip .It's meant to control power to items like separate power amplifiers used with an audio/video receiver. You would connect its control input to the 12V trigger output on a receiver; whatever is plugged into the two switched outlets on the unit would then power on when the receiver was powered on. That's how I was using it, but I no longer need it, since I upgraded to a pair of monoblock amplifiers with 12V trigger inputs. There's also a single unswitched AC outlet on the unit.
I'm using the AC-3 to startup my vintage Mcintosh hifi using a late model Emotiva DAC with 12v 100ma trigger.
The Niles manual shows multiple creative ways to use.
Heavy duty A/V pro military type build.

A lot of people are out there building something similar in a diy fashion. For the price of parts you can pick up one of these on Ebay. Its a manufactured product, tested and UL listed.
