NotesDigitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of albums from the Country singer/songwriter: '80s Ladies (1987) and This Woman (1988). Chart success came late to K T Oslin, who was almost 46 years old when her first RCA single 'Wall of Tears' cracked the Top 40 in the opening weeks of 1988. 80s Ladies' title track hung around the charts for the whole of the summer of '87, peaking at #7, giving Oslin genuine success at last and boosting the sales of the album - which eventually reached #1 the following February, after RCA had culled two more hits from it. Both 'Do Ya' and 'I'll Always Come Back' reached #1. This Woman spawned five singles, including the title track (a #5 hit), the charming 'Hey Bobby' (#2) and a smaller hit (peak #73) in 'Didn't Expect It to Go Down This Way". These hits spanned the whole of 1989, and helped the album achieve a second platinum disc for Oslin to go with the one she'd received for 80's Ladies. Cherry Red. 2011.
One of my Top 25 albums of my lifetime - This Woman - KT Oslin
Certain Artists cover certain subjects others don't. I am not a big Country Music fan as most are of these recordings. The reason I write this review is for the recording "This Woman". Sadly we lost KT to Covid last year. But she lives on with this amazing recording. I can only compare it to Joni Mitchell - Blue in terms of coming clean and honest in her writing and performance. If you are a fan of honest songwriting, then this recording will move you. There are just some recordings that are unlike any others, and the artist manages to convey things others just have either failed at or tried to do but didn't get there. "This Woman" does all that and more. It moves me as Joni Mitchell "Blue" does. Who sings about money and jealousy and friends better than this recording. All I can say is it hurts in its reality. Buy it.
