The difference between the Patternmaster CODE BLACK DUCK and Patternmaster CODE BLACK GOOSE is the length the tube sticks out the barrel. (DUCK=1" vs. GOOSE=1 ½") The added length is to accommodate a 3 ½" shell and still achieve a Full pattern.
Big fat Honks require Big Ball Bearings of this Garbage Non toxic Steel shot in BBB and BB. I hunt with a lot of Different people. Some are morons trying to kill Geese with 3s! The .715 constriction of the Code Black Goose in a Versamax barrel is too much constriction. .010 is about optimum. I pattern 100s of shells a year. I use Specific guns with specific Ammo at different times of the Year. The Pro Bore Does pretty well with 2s and 1s. Does not proper “Goose Size Shot” out of the Particular barrel I bought it For. (Holy Patterns with Flyers) Comp n Choke .010 with B Hevi shot is the gold Standard of 98% at 40 yds to be able to put down Honks at 55-60 late Season cleanly. Steel shot cripple in the wrong hands. Right load with the Right Pattern At the right range.
Bottom line... “Duck loads” pattern fine out of the Code Black “Goose” base on my pattern boards. Aim small miss small.
This is the second patternmaster I’ve owned and I’m not a fan. Neither one would throw good pattern at 30 yards with either length of shell or size shot that I shot through it. At almost $100 a pop, they aren’t worth half the money. Their claims of tight patterns at long distances still remains to be seen. I’m getting holes large enough for a duck and his buddy to fly through with 3s, 2s, & BB.
