SynopsisStyle icon Aerin Lauder reveals what it means to live beautifully Extravagant and fun to be around, Estee Lauder, Aerin's grandmother, loved jewelry and chocolate-covered marshmallows. She adored flowers and rooms full of exuberant patterns. When Aerin was a child, weekend visits with Estee meant ice-cream-and-late-night-TV adventures and spending time together at her grandmother's dressing-room table with its intriguing lipsticks and creams. From an early age, Aerin understood that Estee's passion for family was equal to her love of beauty. Now, Aerin has made this legacy her own. For the first time, she shares memories of the family celebrations and world travel that formed her sense of style. Aerin opens the doors to her New York apartment, where on any given night she might host a relaxed dinner with firends under a vintage French chandelier or, just as often, an impromptu get-together for her sons. Aerin also reveals how she preserved Estee's heritage in her former Hamptons home while adding her own twists. The traditions Aerin has created in her own family--from pool parties with her sons to walks along the beach collecting sea glass to breezy summer lunches--blend elegance and fun in equal measure. Throughout this book, evocative photographs by Simon Upton show Aerin's world in inspiring detail and enhance Aerin's insights into surrounding oneself with beauty and family in every aspect of life., Style icon Aerin Lauder reveals what it means to live beautifully Extravagant and fun to be around, Est e Lauder, Aerin's grandmother, loved jewelry and chocolate-covered marshmallows. Taught me new ways of thinking about decorating...best book I've read yet!
Aerin's book helped me put my memories of my grandmother in perspective to how I incorporate them into unique decorating. She helped me edit my belongings into groups of color, pick a statement piece, and keep things simple yet stunning. She helps you mix your traditional pieces with modern chic. Her childhood thoughts about holidays and family taught me to consider each day as a future treasure to capture some way at home...dining, decorating, and just living each day beautifully. Everything you do becomes considered, compartmentalized, and elevated...like you're weaving a tapestry from everything you experience...past and present. She sets her table with her grandmother Estee's vintage china, then adds her own gorgeous embroidered linens, new brass candleholders, and simple glassware...always with her quirky sense of color and shape. She collects chandeliers that light the room with character, and she creates a girly oasis of birds and flowers in her lovely dressing room with chinoiserie wallpaper, just like Estee had. I read this book to lift me up, inspire new ideas, and motivate me to cherish the many facets of life. It totally gave me a new approach to combine my life with what surrounds me in my home. I hope you'll enjoy it too.
