  • Good beginner's model

Assembly is simple with only 20 parts. It's not completely "Snap Tite" though. Had to glue in the wing retainer (part #30) for the wings, and put a bit of glue on the two halves of the fuselage (holding them together with masking tape as it cures). The tails and bottom canards snap in, but remain a little loose so you might want to glue these in too. Plus there's noticeable gaps where these snap in. Some model body putty like the Squadron brand would take care of the problem. You need to paint the canopy frame also (you can see the guidelines on it) if you want it to look finished. The decals are actually stickers that are pretty thick and will definitely hide detail lines on the plane. They're accurate for Navy squadron VF-33 the "Tarsiers", who renamed themselves the "Starfighters" in 1987 (the wing patch sticker for the base is the Tarsiers one). They switched from the F-4 to the F-14 in 1981, so these are accurate for F-14's between 1981 and 1987. You could always get a good quality 1:72 scale decal set for these (Microscale made one that included VF-33). Overall though it's still a good model for beginners. The plane could probably withstand a bit of play (it can be removed from the stand), but the 3 removable missiles are pretty small so stick with the age rating of 8+.

Exactly as described! It was a birthday gift for my husband and he was pleasantly surprised.
