    Good radio

if it were not for the rocker switch on some of the radios I would have given it five stars. the lower PPT switch does not hold up. with normal use the rocker lower ppt stops wording. the new radios do not have the rocker switch just two ppt buttons much better. it is easy to program with chirp making it a good inexpensive knock around radio. I am able to hit a repeater on Mt. Taylor NM USA from eighty miles away. However do not expect it to do cross band repeat it is not full duplex. It is a radio that you can take out and use in place of a more expensive radio that you do not want to get broken. The receiver is wide band so you might get some inter-mod in or around a big city. Mine picks up the remote temperature sensor (432 MHz) even when i am on 462 MHz. Other wise a good radio.

    Great Radio/ Poor quality earpiece

Nice radio, but the "headset" push to talk switch has problems of not lasting. The PTT stops working on switching to the desired band that you want to talk on. PTT not designed to "LAST" very long. I can't recommend the ear/mic earpiece. Poor quality. However the radio works GREAT!!!! It's just the earpiece PTT (Push-To-Talk) that is poor quality.

  • Alltime favorite

I really like this radio for its low price and features. The best is the way it switches from memory channels to the tuning mode where frequencies are entered from the keypad. When in memory mode, changing to the tuning mode requires that radio to be turned off then back on while holding a key down. This eliminates the common confusion of inadvertently switching modes.

  • Bood Value For the Money

I own the UV-5RA and now the UV-82 - I prefer the UV-82 for the following reason, it's an improvement over the UV-5, First it's a little tinner and fits better in your hand, the flash light has been approved, a nice to have but not needed, but i'm glad i have it, The major change that i enjoy is the ability to monitor two different frequancies and have the ability to communicate of either with a dual PTT. As the UV-5, it is easier to program the UV-82 with a PC, lucky for me both uses the same programming cable, The battery is different, but also very cheap - i ordered 2 extra, The UV-82 seems lighter - For the price < $35 there is not much to complain about - The only thing that may be a concern, is that you need to turn the Radio On / Off to switch from Memory Mode to Frequancy Mode, But not a big deal, It's worth the money 73's.

  • NOT SENSITIVE WHEN CONNECTED WITH THE ROOF ANTENNA.

This is a very good radio, it's got all the features needed by amatuers radios, it is easy and friendly to be use and it is very lightweight but when it is connected with the roof antenna such as ground plane, dipole, slimJim or jpole or any other roof antennas it does'nt remain sensitive with the result that it doesn't catch weak or long distance stations. When operating it with the factory rubber duckey antenna that's will be okay.

  • Great hand held ham type radio.

These are not $500.00 radios, but they are quality radios and priced to get you started in ham or what ever they're certified for. I've bought many radios and brands. The Baofeng radios are constantly quality radios and I recommend them for a starter radio and also as a every day user. This store is a heads up dealer, and all there products seem to carry the same quality and performance. These people are attentive and caring associates. Thank you. Michelle Grey

  • Best radio and service for the price

Great radio, with lots of features. These guys do a great job of preprogramming the radio. The price is a little higher here, but the programing job makes up for the price. I am very impressed with the radio and the service.

  • lightweight, but works, clip very weak. volume good, better than OEM Baofeng

I would NOT recommend these for public safety personnel who rely on radio communications. the clip could be larger and more sturdy. That being said, the two buttons work as advertised and speaker volume is much better than name brand baofeng speaker microphones that I tossed in the trash for $18 each. NOTE that product is a SET of TWO, I accidentally ordered two pair and am stuck with them. The seller wasn't too helpful in rectifying that situation and a return would cost more than they are worth. The clip is nearly useless as it falls off everything, lacking adequate spring strength and adequate friction or "lip" on the clip to not slide off of things. great for kids playing around or ultralight speaker mic setup but not sturdy or reliable enough for anyone who uses a radio for work.

  • Lightweight and packed with features.

Still learning all the functions this transceiver has. Lightweight and includes earpiece for hands-free monitoring etc. Probably will end up getting the programming cable to make it easier to setup the channels the way I need. Instruction booklet is understandable, but for a newbie like me, I wish it had more explanations about different features/settings.

  • Upgrade from UV 5R dual band.

Have used the 5R for 5 years was ready for the upgrade dual Push to talk (PTT). Now two channels can be set even on different bands. Extra power was icing on the cake as the range on the 5R was the best in the industry. Now my UV 82 is the best.
