    Great movie

This is a great movie that highlights westward expansion through the eyes of a few characters. The story is a great tool to show how the events such as cattle ranching and early trapping practices could have played a significant part in growing the country. Although probably fictional, the story holds great interest. Highly recommend.

This is a good DVD set if you like James Michener stories.

I bought this at my wife's request. It is a lot to watch. She has watched one DVD so far and seems to have enjoyed it. I gave this three stars because I believe this was as expected, no better and no worse. James Michener usually does a good job of telling stories.

  • The title was also appropriate.

Amazing array of well know actors. It was very entertaining and seemed like it was realistic of the times it covered--especially the very early days of the trappers & early settlers. Also, was interesting about the Indian tribes. Loved the DVD.

  • Greatest TV miniseries ever

My headline says it all. Centennial is the greatest TV miniseries of all time. Highly engaging from the start with such memorable characters that when I think of the actors I always think of who they played in this miniseries. You can't go wrong with this series and having it missing from your collection is just flat out wrong.

  • Ancestral treat

Although it is historical fiction it gives a picture of the building of America. I use the book in the genealogy classes I give. Now I use the film as well. Along with being educational it is entertaining as well. Genealogists often see their own ancestors in the characters.

  • One of the best series I have seen

This is one of the best series I have seen. Lots of great actors from the 70’s. It’s very engaging and entertaining. Great story line. Not really any "cons". The story goes from the 1700's to the 1970's (current times when the series was completed)

  • A Great Production

The miniseries was one of the best productions I ever remember seeing, even better than the Michener epic novel upon which it was based. The story is compelling, and the actors are superb. The emphasis toward the end upon ecological issues, including the draw-down of ground water in irrigated areas, was well ahead of its time (Remember that this fist showed on TV in 1979.). I don't remember any big-screen movies in recent years with so much star power.

  • Great book turned into great series

After reading the wonderful Mitchener book in 1976 I was afraid the miniseries wouldn’t hold up. It did! Great actors brought the characters in the book to life. My hubby never saw the series so I bought it for him.

  • No going back

I watched this for the first time in 74. I guess I wanted to re-live the time. No going back. It is a great mini-series, but my life has moved on to different areas. Still a great show to watch!

  • Still the best.

Centennial remains my very favorite mini series. Our American history is told around entertaining and interesting characters who bring to life the excitement and challenges our ancestors faced while building our great nation. I think it is a wonderful tool to get young people interested in their heritage and make them hungry to learn more. It is a wonderful family series. While often brutal and often romantic the scenes are not graphic.
