Targus has lowered its' standards
I purchased this backpack based on my previous experience with Targus laptop carriers. My previous case was 5 years old and still functional. This one didn't feel like it would last a year. The fabric felt thin. The pockets do not make good use of the vertical space available in a backpack for a 17" laptop. It did fit my HP Envy 17.3" laptop. The padding seemed thin and there was nothing to protect the laptop on the top edge. That is fine when you have it on your back but it leaves the edge unprotected when you have to put the backpack flat on the floor such as under an airplane seat or in the overhead bin. There is no strap to keep the laptop down in the padded part when you lay the backpack down. This was a terrible letdown from my previous experience with Targus.
