Tool won't help S&W MP 15 Sport Models models designed to have a permanent bullet button.

The tool itself is well made but I can't recommend it since most people buy S&W MP 15 Sport models designed to have a permanent bullet button. I had to bring my weapon in to my gunsmith and have him drill it out. This tool will not work on this model which is a very popular one for cost. Drilling the bullet button out on the button side is what is required.

A properly designed tool that is worth trying

This is a tool made to fit and remove the bullet button nut. You place the tool inside the bullet button body and into the nut cutouts, and then the nut should unscrew. However, some bullet buttons are assembled with thread locker that can make removal difficult or even impossible. Some people have successfully used heat to defeat the thread locker and then removal is straight forward. Unfortunately, I believe mine was assembled with red thread locker which makes unscrewing the nut impossible even with the proper tool; mine was not meant to be removed. A different technique was required to remove mine. This tool is very well made and is fairly inexpensive, so it is definitely worth a try.

  • Do not purchase

Very poor quality, just purchase drill bits if you only have $10, otherwise purchase the steel version of the tool for $20. Most AR’s have loctite, drilling out is very easy because the button acts as a drill bit guide! Go for it, do not be intimidated by gunsmithing. Just use paper and masking tape to help keep shavings out of gun. Just step up the bit a couple times until you have a bit almost as big as the button hole...

  • Well made but not strong enough to remove factory BB.

Very well made, will work on aftermarket mag locks but in my case S&W stock BB had red loctite on it so i end up drilling BB out.

  • Worked great

Was concerned my mag lock nut was glued in. Luckily this tool got it out. Nut was not glued, just too tight for the tool I was trying to use.

  • Does the job

Ordered it to remove the bullet button on my m&p 15 after I converted it to a bolt action. As a warning to people who have the m&p Smith and Wesson uses locktit on it so you must use a heat gun to remove it

  • Worked as expected, but...

Was a bit hard to use with arthritic fingers. Could have come with suggestions for how to defeat thread-locking compounds.

  • Flimsy aluminum tip easily bent. Get a better version.

I struggled to try n turn the key but the soft aluminum tip easily got deformed n bent. Due to this, the bullet button lock did not turn at all. This was a waste of money. Get a better tool. Not this!

  • Fits well, holds up under moderate torque

Works like it should, but you should always use a little heat first in case there is thread lock.
