Filmed entirely on an IPhone, Tangerine depicts the lives of two Transgender sex workers (played by actual Trans Women 😁) on Christmas Eve in Los Angeles. The film captures what it is like to live on the bottom rung of society for various people. Two Trans sex workers are used, dismissed, or abused by pretty much everyone else and have to cope with making a living in a hazardous profession and in Sin-Dee's case dealing with drug use.
Strangely enough Tangerine is has become one of the many alternative X-Mas films that people watch around the holidays in spite of its utterly bittersweet story. The film takes place on Christmas Eve and has a strong message about found family. The last ten minutes of the film hammer this home with the fates of the primary cast. The message comes through loud and clear that as fraught as our relationships may be with our loved ones, the people that truly care about you will stand by you at your lowest point.
I slept on Tangerine for quite some time and I can't honestly justify that. This frenetic grimy Trans Dramedy is a movie that absolutely everyone should see.
P.S. Always remember, Trans Rights are Human Rights and Stand Up for Trans Kids 🏳️⚧️✌😁!
