Tull's winning way with a riff was never so arresting as on the chugging "Locomotive Breath," or the character studies "Cross Eyed Mary" and "Aqualung," which portray believably seedy participants in Ian Anderson's story.

NotesDeluxe two CD + two DVD set. Aqualung was the first Jethro Tull album remixed by Steven Wilson and was originally re-released as a 40th Anniversary package in 2011. This more accessible release features the remixes as Steven delivered them and a flat transfer of the EP Life Is A Long Song. Three additional tracks – ‘Just Trying To Be’, ‘Wind Up’ (early version) and ‘Wond’ring Aloud, Again’ (full Morgan version) are now available as 5.1 mixes. Two of the tracks – ‘Life Is A Long Song’ and ‘Up The Pool’ have never previously been available on CD in this form. Also included is an 80 page booklet with articles and photos from the 40th anniversary edition. The 1971 ‘Life Is A Long Song’ promotional film with new remixed stereo soundtrack is also available for the first time on the second DVD.

  • Aqualung remastered by Steven Wilson RULES!!!

Incredible release with the finest fidelity I've heard on this particular album. The extras are by no means throw-away schlock included to "fill" space. Everything on the 2CDs and 2DVDs is simply incredible. Get a copy of this box set while you can. They are becoming very difficult to find and will inevitably fetch the big bucks in a relatively short time. Aqualung RULES!!!

  • Jethro Tull Aqualung 3-CD-DVD

I bought this because of the 5.1 mixes which are either Dolby Digital or DTS. Also since I had this album when it was originally released in 1971 and always liked it. So my review doesn't matter on the stereo remaster since that's always been good. However, the 5.1 disappointed me. This is by the famous genius as they say Steven Wilson fabulous mix. Well I'll say this. All the channels are mixed well to include the .1 bass mix I believe. But I CANNOT stand the center channel mix. Why do these genius's feel like they have to put just the main vocals in this channel. I absolutely hate that. The center channel is a beautiful channel and that speaker should be used considerably, especially the bass capabilities. It looks to me like Wilson copied Tony Visconti on Visconti's David Bowie mixes in 5.1 since Visconti killed all of Bowie's 5.1 releases this way. All Bowie vocals to center and that's it. I think this thinking is just awful. Listen to Steely Dan's "Goucho" and even the Police's greatest hits in 5.1. Wow what nice vocals and bass from the center.

I have been starting up a music collection of surround sound cd/dvds. Alot of them are overpriced but if you are patient a reasonable offer will come up. This 40th anniversary aqualung by Jethro Tull was purchased under $30 [my limit]. The Steven Wilson remaster is far superior to any of past copies I have. There is a regular mix for non surround players and one Quad mix and also a 5.1 surround disc. also some rare outakes all on 4 discs. I found this to be quality and good value!.One of the greatest Classic prog rock albums in the last 50yrs!

  • Wow

This remix is outstanding. Far better than the 25th anniversary mix done years back. The extras I don't care about, the original tracks make it worth every penny!!

  • very nice

I wish we could have had this back in 1972!! The Quad release was (is) a different TAKE as well as a different MIX Down on most songs, very interesting.

  • Aqualung DVD/CD 40th anniversary set.

The 5.1 DVD is the best sounding Aqualung I've heard. Terrific alternative to super-expensive blu-Ray set. Must-have.
