Ultima VS Rev Tech and Rivera Primo

After bending my shifting forks in the rev tech 6 speed I installed 2 years ago, as they only have 3 instead of 4 forks like everyone else. Also paid over 900 bucks without a trap door, so I had to assemble all the gears and such then spent another couple for a billet trap door. I ordered a Rivera Primo to replace it with, witch upon inspection found the shifting barrel hadn't been correctly machined for one of the shifting forks. So I returned it to JP Cycles witch took them 20 day's after they received it and 4 phone calls latter, to finally get my refund. So I ordered the Ultima from E-Bay witch was over 300 bucks cheaper than the Rivera Primo anyway. The Ultima sifts smoother than the stock Harley 5 speed and the rev tech 6 speed I had previously, Its also easier to hit Neutral with the Ultima. Only complaint is Neutral light comes on 3rd or 4th gear instead of in Neutral. UG But as long as it holds up to my ridding the a very small loss. If they fixed that issue I would have rated it a 5 star.

    The Blue Collars trans kit.

For the price you can't beat it. , having a local dealership install it that is well versed in these type of cartridge kits. Im waiting on a neutral switch and a speed healer and it should be done. Im Kind of disappointed with the " Made in China " label, but what can I do, I can't afford a $3000 Baker trans kit.

  • Great gear set!

People seem to weary of this gear set just because of the price! If you have a 4th gear neutral light it is because HD doesn’t always center the neutral light. Flip the top cover over you will see 2 hash marks and if the neutral switch isn’t in the middle then just buy a after market and your problem will go away. Easy cheap fix! Well built an I have been in this business for over 40 years. Willing to put it up against the higher priced brands. Hope this helps in your decisions.

  • BEST 6 Speed Gearset, hands down!

Being a little skeptical at first, I bought my first Ultima 6 speed transmission 5 years ago, and still have it running behind a big motor without issue. Since then I have bought 4 of these 6 speed builder's kits and have noticed a few things. - Bearings are top notch NTN,NSK or IKO and all made in Japan (HD now supplies FAG, made in Korea) - Gears and shafts are already put together making install super easy - Overall quality is way better than I ever expected - Make sure you have the right tools to press bearings/main gear - Only issue I can report is the supplied quad seal can spring a leak easily, so I always use a HD OEM one (only $1 at dealer) I do wish the supplied instructions were a bit more clear/organized (use the ULTIMA 6 SPEED LSD MANUAL instead), but then again anybody building their own transmissions should have HD factory manual on hand. With all that said, the folks having issues finding neutral, please make sure to set shifter drum endpla and the shift pawl adjustment correctly. I always break-in with 20w-50 motor oil for 100 miles and then run Redline Shockproof Heavy afterwards. Now, I do see people bashing these and comparing to Baker 6 speed, But I am sorry when was the last time any of us working class folks have had $3k to throw at a transmission? Hell you can build a motor for that much...and don't forget the other things in life you have to save that money for. If you are thinking of buying one of these for your old Harley or custom, just get it, you will not regret it!

  • Best bang for your buck

I’ve ran Baker & Jim’s retro kits in the past. Back when $ was no object & bragging on how much we spent for nothin but the best name brand parts, I wouldn’t have bought a $500 6 speed. Oh how times have changed for me. Those other kits have been copied to perfection in this Ultima retro conversion 6 speed. It is smooth whipped butter !!

  • great product easy to install.

Great product. Fit right in the case. It should come with a new oiler and maybe a new clutch pushrod. But ive put probably 10k on this transmission, even ran it outta oil a couple times and its a solid runner and improved my mpg by 10-15. Havent quite got the vss dialed in yet but hopefully after this check i can get the adjuster.

  • 2000 Harley FLHT

Works great, but the neutral light stays on in gear and goes off in neutral, other then that I can live with it and do recommend it. It was also pretty easy to install.

  • 1990 FLHTP

I received my kit on the day they said. the quality of the gear set is excellent and easy to install. it took me a few days to find the specialty tools i needed and i even made my own deep socket. finally put it in and took my first ride. gears are very quiet and shifting is very easy. this is one of the best upgrades i have ever purchased and the price is very affordable. i would tell anyone thinking about upgrading their 5 speed to the ultima 6 to do it. my ride is a highway cruiser now. i'm getting around 2800 rpm's at 70 mph. big difference.

  • Bad welding

I have put several of these transmissions in this one had a bad shift drum locator/follower had to cut it apart and reweld to fix the problem. Shifter bushing had to be cut for shifter pawl. Neutral light comes on in fourth gear. Directions said I may have to shim the switch. Haven't fixed that yet ! Bike was fully assembled and on a test ride when I seen the light come on.

  • 2000 Heritage Classic transmission upgrade

This was my first major modification to a motorcycle. It took me approximately 14 hours to complete. There was some small modification to a bushing which I cut with a Dremel tool. I also had to purchase a tool to remove the racer bearing from the drive shaft. I watch The Baker 5-speed transmission removal and the baker 6-speed transmission install which was a plus. The Ultima 6 instructions are complete but the shifter Forks are not numbered they use a silhouette diagram of the shifter Forks to help identify their positions in the transmission. I have ridden the motorcycle over 30 miles at interstate speeds of 70 miles an hour; no problems as of yet. This is one of the best decisions/ modifications I have made to my bike.
