FMF Racing PowerBomb Header Up to 10% horsepower gain. Proprietary technology to increase flow. Pre-muffler lowers sound output up to 1.5dB. Modular exhaust port flange for reliability and less vibration. Stainless Steel 41483
FMF got it wrong. The FMF head pipe is about an 1/8" larger in diameter over the stock CRF230 head pipe. However, at the mid way point at the slip-on it reduces back to the smaller stock size (OEM) diameter. This is to accommodate those who may want to use the stock OEM silencer/muffler with the FMF PowerBomb. The problem is the OEM slip-on is smaller diameter which is opposite of what a 4T pipe should accomplish. The FMF Powercore4 slip-on is somewhat better in that it uses the same diameter pipe as the PowerBomb. The problem is that both are reduced in diameter at the slip-on (midway point) for marketing and flexibility in sales purposes not for performance purposes. The optimal 4T pipe woulld be the same diameter as the exhaust exit (stock).....never being larger that the actual exhaust exit at the head. Then about a 1/3 of the way a slightly larger pipe should be used and continue on to the muffler. A heavily modified motor may often benefit from an additional increase in the pipe before the silencer/muffler. Look for a ProCircuit, Big Gun, DrD etc full exhaust system for the best design as you can see their pipe increase slightly in diameter. Also it's best to look for a slip-on that uses a reverse megaphone with a silencer/muffler canister built around it.
