Sid Meier's iconic strategy series Civilization turns its eye to the cosmos and for the first time lets gamers explore and colonize alien planets in Beyond Earth. Set in a futuristic version of Earth where spectacular technology is offset by the complete collapse of society, Beyond Earth sends players into deep space to ensure humanity's survival. To accomplish this lofty goal, gamers must explore strange planets, research important new technologies, and amass powerful armies and satellite systems, either in single-player mode or with up to seven friends in multiplayer action.<br><br>When leaving Earth, players choose from eight different expedition sponsors, each with a unique leader and specific gameplay bonuses, and then customize their spacecraft, cargo, and passengers to determine the starting conditions. Alien worlds provide challenges both familiar and new to the series, from building outposts and establishing trade routes, to uncovering ancient alien technology and taming strange new forms of life. Technological advancement occurs in a nonlinear fashion along the Harmony, Supremacy, and Purity affinities, and gamers can unlock upgrades as they advance. Multiplayer fans can join their friends for turn-based competition, and Beyond Earth also supports mods for a further customized experience.

New take on a classic game
Even though it is more recent, it still has its own challenges, it is a rather different take than what I expected - in fewer words, I like it, but, if given the opton, I would rather spend mindless hours with the original Civilization!.

Kind of dumb at first, mostly becouse it's hard to understand everything but after a week I just can't put it down. Graphics kinda suck but tend to get better after upgrading ships. Kind of like you start off with soldiers that look like stick men but after upgrading they look like cool stick men.. ;) can't wait to upgrade them a third time I'm sure their going to look like super cool stick men. But the over all game play rocks. Build up some explorers and send them out. Getting explorers to crash sites is the challenge early on in the game after a week or so of playing its slaughter all the A.I's or make friends with them .. Nah

Civilization V is better, because the gameplay is so dark and the objectives seem to be the same.
Truth be told I stopped playing after 15 minutes so it might get better as gameplay advances. It's likely I'll never know the answer to that question.
