One up from a base model
The Sangean PR-D7 is solidly built. Pros: 1) It has a switch under the battery 'hood' for standard or rechargeable batteries. 2) The display is intuitive. 3) The extras like presets and the alarm function are nice. Cons: 1) The single speaker is reminiscent of the first transistor radios in that there is no treble or bass control. It is a small speaker but you can drive it pretty hard before it starts clipping words. 2) While the alarm clock function works, the display isn't back lit so as a travel clock for night time use it doesn't do the job for me.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great set but use re-chargeables
Radio well built and performs outstanding in both bands. Only issue is you can not turn off the back lit LCD display and that drains the batteries fast.. Use re-chargeables only unless you can afford boxes of the typical alkaline types. This was our second time with this model as my wife listens at night every night till she falls asleep. Just what we wanted
We bought this for the bathroom, to replace a very old Sony. It's a good compact size, instruction manual is clear and accurate, the reception is very good on both AM and FM even without the power cord stretched out (we're only a couple of miles outside a city), sound quality is solidly better than I'd expect from the speaker size. No separate antenna but in an urban area it doesn't need one. My only quibble is that we would like the time display to be larger.
