  • Great Projector

I replaced my ailing EPSON 5010 with the 5040UB. Connecting the projector was simple: one HDMI cable to the TV box and one HDMI cable to the Blu-Ray player. The picture quality is better the the 5010, which is saying a lot. Every feature can be controlled from the remote. (The on-line manual could be better ). The projector is very quiet. It comes with the brightness set to "Normal". I changed it to "Economy" to make the bulb last longer and the picture is still plenty bright. The whites are whiter then with the 5010, and if you want to play with the color saturation, it is very easy to do. To focus, press the remote "Lens" button once; to change the picture size, press the "Lens" button twice, etc. Also, the remote has HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 to easily switch between video sources. I have the projector sitting on a shelf about 12 feet from a seven-foot screen.

  • Epson 5040ube awesome

I’ve searched everywhere from retail to online to research and review various projectors and screens. I was torn between the new Sony 285 4K for $5k or the Epson 5040 for $2.6k (retail). I reviewed both projectors at two retail locations with an ALR screen which I wanted. My neighbor also had a 5030 with an ALR with a great picture. Here’s my personal take. The Sony running actual 4K is really nice but for the $2600k more from the Epson I personally couldn’t justify the cost difference. Plus the Epson has a high Lum specification in various image settings so if I need to brighten up a movie or sports event I have flexibility over the Sony. Finally the setup with various auto focus & shifts beat the Sony. I’m a fan of Sony products and if it was $1k more I would have considered it. Hands down I’d buy this unit again. Pair it with a solid ALR and you won’t be dissapointed. Image attached is with lights on and the lower lum setting.

  • Epson 5040UB

I just upgraded from the Optoma 141x- The difference in image quality is night and day. In fact, the picture quality rivals my 65in Sony 4k set which is a year old.Set up was very easy and I love the motorized features. If you go up on Youtube and get into some of the 4k HDR clips, your jaw will drop. I'm projecting on a Daylite 110 in screen. Make sure you have plenty of room for the unit. At 20.5 x 17.5 x 7, it is anything but dainty!

  • Shame on other projectors

I'm an hometheater installer since 2003, I did use a lot of brands , but this Epson , wow, even if you compare it with native 4k sony 665, the sony is abit dim comparing to this one , also no fan noise , the projector is so bright , specially if have a screen size more than 120 inch , thank you Epson for this technology

  • Awesome 4K projector

Fantastic upgrade of a 1080P projector. Amazing difference, especially with GOOD 4K content (like Planet Earth II). Even regular Blu-ray discs are much better. Also very bright. Even on lowest setting it is much brighter than my old projector. Build quality is excellent. About 4 times bigger than my old projector, and has things like power zoom, and a motorized lens cover that automatically covers the lens when turned off.

  • Great projector

After spending hours and hours reading through reviews, I decided on this as the best sub-$2k projector available. I was not disappointed. The blacks are beautiful - something that I’m sorely disappointed in with so many projectors of today. Unless you’re going to get a high-end (and very expensive) Sony or JVC, this is the projector you’ll want for your home theater. Note: It won’t be the best option if you have a lot of ambient light. This is meant for a light-controlled room, and excels in its purpose.

  • Excellent projector for a home theater

This is an excellent entry level pro projector for the dedicated home theater. Excellent contrast ratio and lens shift hep make this an extremely versatile projector. In early 2020, if you can find this at or under $1k, it’s a no brainer.

  • Epson hits home run!!

The Epson 5040UB is an awesome projector. Black and white levels are great. Can't tell if I'm watching a high end tv or projector...no joke. I highly recommend this projector.
