This carburetor is better than the OEM Nikki carburetor used by Briggs & Stratton

This aftermarket carburetor seems to be an improvement over the stock Nikki carburetor used by Briggs. I tried cleaning and rebuilding two of the stock Nikki carburetors and I still couldn't get my 407777-0128-E1 to run right -- it always ran really rich. This carburetor and gaskets seems to have done the trick. It's running much, much better, and the fuel/air ratio seems to be close to correct now. For the price and considering it included the gaskets, the carburetor is a good value. I didn't try the fuel filter or spark plugs, though. They seem okay. And as stated in other reviews, the wiring harness for the older style carburetors with the solenoid pointing down will be too short on the black (ground) wire. It was a very easy fix, though: two crimp on butt splices, 3" of black wire, and some electrical tape, and I was back in business.

  • Top critical review

    Proformance issues.

Motor starts well and has great power, however; it runs too rich causing momentarily miss-firing and black smoke when opening up the throttle from idle. Same thing happens when running at full throttle and encountering a sudden load as when blowing snow. (Motor has new spark plugs, correct valve lash and magneto gap.)

  • Briggs & Stratton Carburetor

It was the correct part and an easy install. A bit pricey, but that is to be expected when finding replacement parts for a 15 year-old engine. The old engine started right up and ran like new. Delivery was fast, fast, fast. Yes, I will buy from them again.

  • Nice Unit

Took 1/2 an hour to install and my Tractor ran like a top, right away, after installation. The price makes up the difference it would have cost in rebuilding time (And testing through trial and error, to be sure that my old carberator had every contaminent cleaned out of it, and that every O-Ring, Seal, and Seet (sp) was installed correctly. Delivery took 3 days.

  • Good value, direct bolt up

Almost direct replacement for Briggs 499804. Original had fuel shutoff solenoid vertical, below the fuel bowl (old design). Bolted right up and runs great. Only modification was cutting the pigtail and adding about 2" to each of the fuel solenoid wires. New life into a 19 year old V-twin riding mower.

  • I am very happy with my purchase and service after sale.

Carburetor works nice ! Had to reroute fuel cut off switch ground wire to reach. Filed small kerf in heat shield to accomodate fuel switch modification upgrade. my tractors are 02 and 03 years with Briggs v twins. Both use 14 mm plugs. The 12 mm plugs in the kit may be for newer models I was quickly compensated for the correct plugs. My 2003 model has much smaller heat shield. . ad to reroute cut off switch wires to reach and file small recess in heat shield to accomodate upgraded fuel cut off switch

  • carb

Briggs sure has it's hand in your pocket on this one! Anything with a V twin is expensive. The guys have the best price I've seen so far. Easy to change, ran good. No compaints except price!

  • Carburator

Perfect fit for a 26hp B&S Intek. Engine was running progressively worse. First the idle started hunting and finally it would backfire and pop at normal speed. Tested compression and ignition all was good. Only thing left is fuel. Read the good reviews and bought this carb. Easy swap and bolted right up. Only thing I did different was order OEM carb to air filter gaskets. The ones that came with it are thin and feel cheap. Everything else was fine. Engine runs perfect now.

  • GENUINE OEM Briggs & Stratton 791230 Carburetor Replaces # 699709 , 499804

Briggs decided to replace a $20 carburetor part with a $200 carburetor. Very poor ethics. Leaves you stuck if you want to mow your yard. When you receive the carburetor you find that other parts that connect to it no longer fit since they have changed the size of the holes, so your mower is down for a few more weeks while you order more parts. My local Briggs dealer could not figure out why nothing would attach to it either, but I figured out that ordering new parts worked. Briggs had changed the dimensions over the years and never made any notes along the way to dealers or consumers. Once again, poor ethics.

  • Did the trick!

I am normally a guy that would remove a carburetor, clean it and reinstall. This time I figured, for the price, I would be able to replace the carb with a new one and if I still had problems I would know it was something else. Anyway, I'm back to mowing with both cylinders and loving it! Thanks
