Recreating the style of the 1964 version. The original Hofner Beatles bass sound. With a short scale of 30 "and the small violin bass body it is one of the greatest electric bass guitars ever made.
It basically sounds hollow. You can adjust some of it out but then the low end is too weak. For me it was a disappointment. I have a Gibson EB2D and its just too heavy for this 73 year old. Buy the third set I'm wasted. Its probably a pipe dream to find good tone in a light weight Bass.
I'm still looking.
Nice light brown burst. . Hardware feels a bit cheaper than previous years but the hue on the pickguard and tuners is more on the cream side and looks much better than the bold white of previous.years. So close to a German one its hard to tell the difference . Sounds nice and low on the neck pickup with a nice snap on the bridge pickup.. They sanded the angles on the top of bridge a bit too much so good luck if you ever have to move saddles to change intonation . All in all a drastic step up from icon version.(neck wideness is less than the icon but a hair fatter) Why bother spending thousands more for a German one
A true classic with all the modern desirable features and tones.
I have had several of these HCT basses over the years. They have continued to impress. With the original wound rounds they have a total spectrum of available tones. With the half rounds I use they get a little closer to original McCartney tones, and of course with La Bella flats you have a perfect rendition of "Beatles bass" sounds. The neck is super solid and frankly I have never even touched a truss rod on any of these. The controls are a little weird but once you figure them out you should be able to get pretty much any tone you want. No need to even mention the fabulous look of these basses. A classic and yet a great modern weapon.
