Great way to garden!
At 71 yrs old I'm loving the ease of this way to garden! Preparation was not hard, just time consuming to water in the fertilizer (big whup). Transplants didn't even know they were transplanted, and the soaker hose system takes care of the watering! Even though I was late in getting the garden "in" all of my seeds are up and the transplants are greening and growing. After years of traditional garden weeding, and then 7 years of square foot gardening, I love that the bales are at a great height and need no weeding. And since we put in the hose timer, there is no thought to watering. Joel has detailed his remarkable system with great pictures and illustrations. Author explains everything about how to do and where to do it and how many days it will take. I was able to follow this book in every step of my new venture in Straw Bale Gardening. With the bales now fully conditioned, I started planting them last evening and am eager to see how it goes from here! Although the straw bale method is not for all vegetables, most can benefit from the warmth of the straw, and the remarkably easy procedure. These attractive bales can be placed anywhere! The best part for me is that the bales can be stacked two high and I don't need to lean over to plant or harvest.
