About this product

Product Information

Modeled with a super-telephoto zoom range, the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300 mm f/3.5-6.3 G ED VR Lens effortlessly covers a wide expanse with a magnanimous focal length of 18.0 mm (W) – 300 mm (T). This permits you to comfortably capture a whole range of shots from wide-angle shots to closeups, to mid-range shots, to panoramic views, or even long distance zoom angles. You also get an impressively shallow depth-of-field, which makes your subject stand out against their backgrounds. This lens is also remarkably compact and lightweight due to its retractable barrel mechanism. Hence, in spite of being designed with a super-telephoto zoom range, the lens is still easily portable and user-friendly. Another brilliant feature of the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300 mm f/3.5-6.3 G ED VR Lens is its in-built vibration reduction (VR) image stabilizer, which efficiently decreases the shaky effects of handheld camera positions.

    "Jack of all"

Camera: Nikon D3300 My credentials as a photographer: i have none, but I am an enthusiastic amateur who occasionally gets "that shot" - usually by blind ass luck. We just returned from an extended trip to Peru where we did the obligatory trip to Cuzco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. We also went low and east and did a river cruise on the headwaters of the Amazon. Plenty of photo ops, but I seemed to always be caught with the wrong lens (choices were a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm) Close up and zoom opportunities abounded - often almost simultaneously. One of our group had a lens similar top this (after market brand, but same specs) and was able to take advantage of the full spectrum offered. Although a little larger and heavier, if gives me the opportunity to ditch the camera bag, so it's a win/win for me. Good package, but it contained some items that I absolutely could not figure out what the were for, and the sun hood was a terrible fit - it screwed on and the choices were either on or in your pocket. I ended up getting another "bayonet" type that is just fine, and can be inverted to snap on over the lens body when not needed. All in all, I am very pleased.

  • Top critical review

    Optically good, but didn't work.

Optically it's great. However, the barrel of the lens had lens creep. The focus was not fast nor smooth, and it struggled to find focus with my camera. Had to send it back.

  • Great lens

I bought this lens because I was tired of changing out lenses for close or far during my family camping trip to the forest. I lost many wildlife opportunities due to time spent swapping out lenses. This lens is both lenses in one. Yes a bit heavy but not much more than my 70mm-300mm telephoto lens I currently use. The week it arrived we had a fire near our house and in California we have the Cal fire, Super scooper, Helicopters and Big DC10 type plane/jets. I was able to zoom in so close and tight they filled the screen. When I magnified the image on playback I could see the pilot even the rivets on the plane. You loose some sharpness at the 300mm mark but not much. Also the focus motor is quick and quiet. Great lens. I wish I bought this alot sooner.

  • Good value for money

A great multi-purpose lens. I have it on a D7200 and I'm quite pleased. It saves me form having to swap lenses frequently. Would a 300 mm prime liens be sharper? Yes. And more expensive? Absolutely. Do I wish it had a wider f-stop? Sure. But I'm shooting for enjoyment and not employment. I spent thousands on prime lenses for my 4K video cameras but this is my fun, vacation camera and the simplicity of one lens is well worth the tiny compromise at full zoom. At wider angles it is crystal clear. it is great value for money.

  • Incredible lens. So razor sharp it cut me just looking at the pictures. Super-fast focus.

I'm a lifetime photographer who has a ton of cameras and lenses. This one is not only massively usable due to the zoom capacity, but is the most responsive, fast, precise and 'fun' lens I have ever owned. Nikon has hit a grand slam with this lens. Buy one today with confidence.

  • Sharp and fast

After setting my camera to utilize the clear and fast focusing DX 18-300 lens, I haven't missed capturing acrobatic osprey, butterflies, humming birds or bees in action, yet. The wide range allows me to follow my interest from indoor group shots to flower closeups or to zoom in on distant mountains. I have even taken clear, sharp pictures of the moons of Jupiter with my D3300 using this lens and a tripod. My other lenses are stored in a cabinet. This is the only lens I seem to need for now.

  • Amazing lens

I freaking love this lens. I'm a amateur photographer so maybe I don't know any better but this thing is great! I love the auto focus and vibration reduction feature. And it feels solid. I had two lens before that I had to switch back and forth from. Now I will never have to do that again.

  • The greatest "one lens does it all" for traveling and just all around

Not wanting to haul bunches of lenses on a recent Rhine River Cruise, I did my homework and bought this lens before the trip. I literally took all 2,300 of my shots with this single lens!! Very sharp, responsive, fast focus, and can go from close up wide angle to distant telephoto with a quick twist of the wrist. My favorite lens of all time! I have multiple images winning competition in my local camera club. Although it is f 4.5-5.3, I was almost always with enough light, given today's great sensitive sensors on my Nikon D7100. Shooting (hand held) in fairly dark cathedrals, and outside on the town (again hand held), there were few times that I wasn't able to catch an acceptable image by pushing up the iso. So glad I got this lens!

  • Lightweight with great features

I have wanted a 18 - 300 mm lens for a while because of it's size and features. After waiting for a while it came down to a great price. It works perfect with my Nikon D 7100 which was purchased about a year ago. Thank you for a satisfied return customer.

  • I'm no longer changing lenses all the time and I always have the right one.

Prior to owning this lens, I frequently lost photo opportunities because I had the wrong lens on my camera or I was in the middle of changing lenses. I love that I can take a photo of a large group of people or a large scenery shot and two seconds later zoom in on one person or a dainty flower in the middle of the large scenery that I just took a photo of seconds before. The only downfall is that it is a bit heavy, but not any heavier than carrying around two to a half a dozen lenses. One of the things I take lots of photos of is our marching band. I can photograph the entire group as they march down the street then focus on one member just like that. I can get the entire group spread across a football field, or take an up close photo of one person on the back row across the field and all are clear. I probably wouldn't have been able to afford this had I not bought it on eBay where I got a great deal!
