Used in on my ductless mini-split A/C units

If you have one of the ductless mini-split air conditioners, SOMEONE is going to have to do maintenance on it, or it will become useless. Maybe someday they'll be re-designed to be lower maintenance, but till then, if you don't keep the coils clean, the 'drain pan' (which is quite small & narrow) clean, and the drain line open, you're going to have water intrusion & big trouble. My two Klimaire units didn't have any issue until the second year of svs. I live in the middle of Tx, maybe not the hottest place on earth, but our summer months are plenty hot. I had several A/C techs out when one of the units began leaking water down the inside wall, & they were clueless as to what the problem was. Long story short, coils & drain pan needed cleaning, which is where this Evap Foam spray on cleaner, comes in. Someone is going to have to partially disassemble your mini-split to clean the drain pan, & clean the coils. After a lot of money spent on ignorant a/c techs, I began doing this task. This Nu-Cal is the only brand I've tried so far, & I don't think there are a lot of equivalents at this point, & I've got a couple of cans ready to go for the next time I need them. Ductless systems 'can' be great, but either you, or someone is going to have to properly maintain them, and if it's not you, you best know a professional that is familiar with how to keep them properly serviced.

If your evaporator coils are dirty, this WON'T clean them - guaranteed.

I tried this on my evaporator coils, at my residence. I have a Carrier furnace/AC unit located inside my house. It's about 20 years old. My AC wasn't cooling as well, so I decided to check out the evaporator coils, because I never even looked at them in 20 years. After figuring out how to take the cover off the A frame, I found the evaporator caked with "crud". I guess my air filter hasn't been doing a very good job, because the evaporator coils aren't supposed to get dirty. I would say they were very dirty and caked with dust and hair, mainly. After scraping off the surface layers of "Crud", I then tried the Nu-Calgon foam. It's supposed to be squirted between the fins as a liquid and expand, which is supposed to push the "Crud" in the fins to the outer surface, so it can be removed. I applied the Nu-Calgon as directed and waited the appropriate amount of time, for the cleaner to do its thing. I did notice a little black filth mixed in with the foam as it liquified. I then used a Diversified T101 fin comb between the fins and pulled out all kinds of deeply impacted "crud". The fin comb did a much better job of getting the "crud" out, than the Nu-Calgon. I would say the Nu-Calgon removed almost nothing and isn't worth the $14 price tag. It may work if your coils aren't very dirty, but if they are dirty, don't waste your money on this stuff. I don't have the ability to remove the evaporator coils and take them to a car wash (the best way) so I used the the fin comb - My AC started cooling a lot better, after the fin comb. Compressed air did little to clean the impacted coils. In summary, I felt like this product was a waste of money, because it didn't work well. I could have used 10 cans of this ($140), and it still wouldn't have removed as much "crud" as the fin comb ($8).

  • Great product and super easy to use.

This is a great product. It could not be any easier to use. Just spray it on your coil and walk away ! It cleaned my coil very well and I did not have to rinse the product off. It also gave my coil a clean fresh smell ! I would highly recommend this product to anybody ! I will use it again !

  • Not really No Rinse

Just used it on my split air/heat inside unit...It does an OK job and you can see dirt comming off,but its really not a NO RINSE...can even says its good to flush with water. My understanding is its more of a No Rinse if using to clean when using the Air,something about the condensation washing it off,but since I mainly use mine for heat, and not about to turn the Air part on when its 30 degrees out, might be better to use in the summer.

  • Absolutely did the trick!!

This worked perfectly in cleaning our mini-split coil. The tech took the empty container to order his own supply because he was impressed with it's performance. Great product!
