Harmony 700 problems with Yamaha/Panasonic/Cisco devices
The Harmony download and programming the remote is drop-dead simple. And the database contained all my devices, the Yamaha receiver, the Panasonic TV and the Cisco set-top box, all of which are HDMI interconnected, and all of which behave correctly using their native remote controllers. The Harmony has a default sequence for powering up the first 2 devices (which 2 depend on what you are trying to do, TV, DVD, etc.) My TV has an 8-10 second delay as it turns on before it looks at the HDMI port. The receiver is much faster, powers up and addresses the TV before the TV HDMI port is listening. When the TV comes up it switches to it's internal speakers and functions since the HDMI port is no longer directing it; it sent all it's HDMI commands 3-5 seconds earlier. I put in several calls to Logitech help desk, each of which introduced me to some aspect of solving the problem but none of which actually solved it. They tried, in some cases really hard, but they could not come up with a workable solution. After 2 days of fiddling with it I finally put together some custom lists that actually worked, albeit cumbersome. Then I discovered that when trying to listen to music, on my Yamaha, the 700 ALWAYS chose the "net radio" selection, not the "Net" selection (for Pandora). I could solve this also with more custom listings but only on secondary pages on the remote using the customization buttons. So now there was no more "one button" activation for my devices, the main reason I bought it for my wife. And last but not least, the button labeling is small and has no contrast on the buttons, making it hard for me to see (I wear bifocals). The LCD screen is nice, and the 4-sector labeling is good, but other messages are in small fonts. All in all, it works but it's not worth the effort to me.
