Good so far but time will tell

My work is repairing tile roofs. Leaf blowers are essential for removing debris during and after completing work. Prior to buying this unit I'd always used Stihl gas blowers and the last many years I'd get about 9 months to a year out of a Stihl hand held blower. Doing this work for 25 years my left elbow has seen better days and the left handed pull cord of the Stihl blowers was making things worse as even my brand new Stihl is taking 6-8 yanks of the pull cord to fire up. When you fire up the blower a half dozen times a work day that's a lot of yanking w/ that elbow. I'm now 3 days into using this battery blower and I'm happy so far. It has about the same power as a gas unit AND my elbow that was keeping me up at night is feeling the best it has in months. While I use a blower daily and often, it only sees about 5 minutes of run time per day. With the 12ah battery I run in it, it made it through 3 days without flattening the battery. It's for sure a lot quieter than a gas unit too which is nice. I don't know how ideal it would be for other specific trades. When I cleaned roofs earlier in my career I'd often run a blower for more than an hour a day; it may not be ideal for that without spending a fortune on batteries. For sure if you plan to put a blower to real run time use of 20 minutes a day or less this is a good tool. The plastic body of the unit is a hard plastic that looks like it will explode if it takes a fall off a roof which has me leery. Stihl blowers are a soft, flexible plastic that typically survive falls well. I've lost many a Stihl off a roof and none were damaged to the point of inoperable (at least nothing duct tape couldn't fix). I plan to treat this tool like any other tool I own: use and abuse. Every leaf blower or cutoff saw I've owned lives in the back of a work truck or on a roof. No garage sheltered cream puffs here. I'll update my review later as I torture test this unit.

    Power Hog

This blower is such a power hog, it will only run for ten minutes before the battery dies. I am using a new 60v Flexvolt 6AH battery, charged at room temperature. Even if a 12AH battery is used (at a cost of $200) the run time would only be 20 minutes. I regret purchasing this blower and will look into returning it. (I'm not the only one with this complaint...I should have paid more attention to the reviews.)

  • Great DeWalt tools.

I have several DeWalt power tools and love them all. This blower shares batteries with my DeWalt chain saw. Of course I move leaves around with it, but I also remove dust from the garage floor and ashes from where I burned a pile of brush.
