Reviews"Terrific...Grisham, can still devise distinctive characters, tricky legal predicaments and rogueishly cheating ways to worm out of them." --Maureen Corrigan, The Washington Post   "Sebastian Rudd is a kind of social justice warrior and Grisham uses him to take jabs at the legal system...all with a blunt, rude, gravelly poetic wise guy voice that makes Rudd come across as a kind of 21st-century Philip Marlowe." --Benjamin Percy, The New York Times Book Review
Synopsis#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER - Featuring one of John Grisham's most colorful, outrageous, and vividly drawn characters yet, Rogue Lawyer showcases the master of the legal thriller at his very best. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee, his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy. He lives alone in a small but extremely safe penthouse apartment, and his primary piece of furniture is a vintage pool table. He drinks small-batch bourbon and carries a gun. Sebastian defends people other lawyers won't go near: a drug-addled, tattooed kid rumored to be in a satanic cult, who is accused of molesting and murdering two little girls; a vicious crime lord on death row; a homeowner arrested for shooting at a SWAT team that mistakenly invaded his house. Why these clients? Because he believes everyone is entitled to a fair trial, even if he, Sebastian, has to cheat to secure one. He hates injustice, doesn't like insurance companies, banks, or big corporations; he distrusts all levels of government and laughs at the justice system's notions of ethical behavior. Sebastian Rudd is one of John Grisham's most colorful, outrageous, and vividly drawn characters yet. Gritty, witty, and impossible to put down, Rogue Lawyer showcases the master of the legal thriller at his very best. Cleaning up the Act

The only reason I bought two copies of the Rogue Lawyer is because I thought I had lost the one I had, but it was later found. In the meantime I had already ordered the second copy, so I gave it to my sister to read. However, I have a hardback copy of all of Grisham's novels and have read all of them. As you know, the only book he has written so far which contains foul language is his first, A Time to Kill. That book called for foul language to make the story realistic, but all of his other works contain no foul language because the story or theme of the book does not call for it. It seems that some authors cram their books with foul language because think that is what the public likes to read. I never did like that, but I would read through the cursing and swearing in order to stay with the story. It seems like there is less foul language in some of the books of other authors now. It seem as though more and more people are cleaning up their language, at least in public.

    Book of short stories.

I have read some really good books from this author. This is not one. The character is not likeable. Actually there is no likeable characters in this book except the unfortunate son. The story doesn't flow. It is more a book of short stories. Very disappointing. The two best books he wrote in my opinion are The Summons and The testament.

  • Only For John Grisham Fans

To begin, this has a flawed but human working in law. He's an underdog who knows the ins and outs of the law. He will also have his day when the big case that fuels the story's conflict. Whether he triumphs or not may or may not be obvious before the end. Either way, this is only for the John Grisham die-hards. Those burned out by him need not bother.

  • Makes a great gift!

Bought this for my friend for Christmas and he is an avid reader who adores this author. He was very excited to receive the newest book by Grisham. He read the book within a day due to it being such a good read.

  • ROGUE LAWYER

John Grisham is a most prolific writer with a great deal of fact, a little embellishment and a lot draw and interest. I love his work and have most of his books. I also highly recommend the book to anyone who loves to read about a side of life thru the eyes of a lawyer.

  • A can't put it down read

A two fisted, thoroughly entertaining slam bang entertainment from John Grisham. This one has it all. Corrupt cops, venal judges, abductions, double and triple crosses. This is the John Grisham that I have come to enjoy and cherish. The book does not disappoint. The ending is a touch ambiguous, just like real life. Will the title character continue his devil may care career, or settle down, or...? Highly recommended

  • "Rogue Lawyer" is a gtreat read.

Different twist for John Grisham. Reveals the underside of the law and the tenacity of a lawyer who doesn't fit the usual mold. You will enjoy it.

  • great as usual

I do not like to read, but John Grisham writes in a way that once you start to read you want to read until you just have to put it down. He has a way of tieing in other books and I finally wound up with every book he wrote.

  • A Different Grisham.

Highly engaging Runyonesque fiction but only by a close call. Not much fiction here in that if you have any familiarity with the urban justice system, these personas are as real as can be. Sorry and setting to the next is seamless. Vibrant and relateable actors throughout. Will never be a movie but many chapters could be themselves. READ THIS!!
