research older model instruments before purchase
This is an earlier model L G flip phone we bought to replace a newer slightly larger LG that got wet. It is smaller and requires accurate fingering but the functions are mostly all there and will suffice until our contract / upgrade comes due. Because it may soon not be supported by VERIZON I advise checking with Verizon re long term support for this model when considering purchase. ( actually the Verizon technicians ( 3 of them ) had difficulty to activate it for me but it is working fine now.

Designed for both simplicity and convenience
The phone keys have a simple layout that's standard for LG flip-phones with conveniently separate keys for texting and speakerphone. The hinge is sturdy and, at the very least, this phone shouldn't be as easy to break as a smartphone. The battery charger disassembles so that it can be plugged either into a wall outlet or into a USB drive. The phone is slightly wider than some other flip-opens that Verizon still sells, but any flip-open is more comfortable to hold than a flat, wide, and heavy smartphone. The phone also has a convenient Set-Up Wizard in the Settings and Tools section of the menu, so personalizing the phone should be pretty straight forward for those who have little patience for dinking around with new gadgets. Overall, it's better than flip-opens that I've owned in the past. It's still pretty basic, but there are just enough little convenient touches to make this phone worth recommending over other flip-open phones. And the price is hard to beat.

Nice little easy to use phone. My husband had a stroke and I needed something simple. I preprogrammed the speed dial so he just had to hold down one number to get to his important contacts. He can't talk much, so I feel safer if he is waiting on the car while I'm in a store. I know he can hold one button to notify me that he needs me. I got a red hard case, so we can find it if lost. Stays charged forever! (Compared to my smart phone)

Small. Durable. Good Price.
This is for my father in a nursing home. He is 80 years old and has lost or damaged 3 phones in 2 years, so I didn't want to spend a lot on the "next" phone. This is 3G, which is fine for its use. Best phone ever!!
This is one awesome phone from LG. I love the way it looks and operates. The life of the battery is pretty darn good too. I am not a fan of smart phones and I hate texting. The smart phones are distracting and people are still texting and driving which is extremely dangerous. A phone should be marketed as a phone; not a computer. Kudos to LG for making such a wonderful little cellular phone and an inexpensive one at that. A+++++

Not happy.
Verizon told me if I found a new LG VN170 phone they would set it up for me in place of the flip phone I had/have which I don't like. I bought this phone as new, which I suppose it was, but Verizon told me it was to old to set up. So there goes $67. Basically, it would appear that I was sent a phone that has no use.
