    Sounds great, but

This stomp box does what it claims (adding bass and drums for a solo player), and it sounds great, but, it's not quite as easy to use as you might hope. Digitech products never are, but every few years I get sucked in and buy another one of their products, which usually ends up gathering dust on the closet shelf. I think that this one, however shows a lot of promise, and will warrant me taking the time to sit down and really learn it...someday. The drums and bass accompaniment sounds very authentic, and not canned or fakey. To take full advantaqe of this product and its features, you may want/need to buy an FS3X Digitech foot switch, for ~ $35 +/-. Would I buy this product again? After some hesitation, I'll say yes, because it does sound good, and I think it has a lot of potential. Good playing, friends.

  • Top critical review

    Digitech Trio

The pedal is fantastic for practicing at home, however this unit is NOT workable for live use unless you have time to dial it in between songs. I worked with it for 2 weeks and just couldn't make it work for my Solo Show needs. Don't get me wrong, the sound quality is great! But, it just didn't work for me.

  • Needs a software dashboard / editor / librarian to be complete.

This thing does what it claims and is a lot of fun. But if you intend to use it for live performance it needs a software dashboard / editor / librarian for backup and management. It is too easy to forget where you are and/or screw things up. The bass parts are better than expected. I would gladly trade the metal genre for reggae and more useful latin beats but that's just my preference. I recorded some of my own bass parts into the looper. That helps.

  • Band-in-a-Box!

Despite some obvious limitations insofar as intuitive adaptation to everyone's particular playing style, this box is truly a fine accompanist for the solo player who is tired of waiting for the "right" potential bandmates to show up in BandMix. Loads of fun and not a lot of bucks for the bang provided, and if recording is your thing, you can add a Digitech JamMan or similar and loop to your heart's content.

  • Band in a box

This review is for the Trio Band Creator (TBC) not the Trio Plus. The TBC is easy to use and creates some great backing tracks once you get the hang of creating 'loops' for your songs (the bass and drum tracks the trio creates run in a loop). Even though I am an experienced musician I had never used a looper before so it took me a little while to get the hang of breaking a song down to loops that repeat properly and transition correctly from loop to loop (like verse loop to chorus loop). When creating a loop it's important to pick the correct beat to start and stop the recording on because if you pick to wrong beat the trio will misinterpret the time signature or style of your loop and create something that won't work for your song (starting and stopping on the 1 beat of the measure works perfectly).  The sound of the trio's backing bass and drums is more than good enough for practice and when sent to a PA or similar full range amp (like a vocal or acoustic amp) sound really good. The TBC can TEMPORARILY save and manage three loops at a time which can then be used to back different parts of your songs...verse, chorus, bridge, etc. The TBC does NOT allow you to save the loops you create permanently for recall at a later date. It takes some time to build the loops for a full song so thankfully there is a way to work around the lack of a save function...I simply send the TBC output to my pc and save the loops there. Then on the pc I can manage and sequence my loops as I see fit to create a full backing track for an entire song. As many have noted in their reviews the TBC does seem to default to overly complex arrangements for a newly created loop but when it does this it's super easy to twist the knob down to select a simpler arrangement.  So far I have not been able to figure out how to get the trio to not play-through a stop in songs with stops but hey I can't tell you how many times I've played with a real rythm section that played right through the stops so I guess I should be used to it. If the Trio would show up drunk for practice every once in a while that would be great and would make me feel right at home. I've had this for two days now and am loving it!

  • Drums and bass

Lots of fun. Used it for a stand-in at Sunday service twice and got props from people. Fairly easy to use, just don't over do the teaching mode. Really great for practice/jam nights.

  • This one is right

I bought the original trio and found it useless for a combination of poor ability to read and reproduce useful drum tracks, overly busy inappropriate bass lines and no ability to save anything if you acidentally stumbled on something you could actually use. Returned in 2 days. The + has memory, reads consistently on the drums, has better usable bass lines, and has the added benefit of the looper. Playing more, enjoying it, a keeper, at twice the price. Only shortcoming is the drums dont sound great. My 20 year old boss drum machine sounds more realistic. Improve the drum sound quality and add swing/rockabilly genre.

  • Digit each..trio..band in a box

This is the newest technology in 20 years for the guitars pedal effects group! I am a guitar player, used to play for money( 1970- 1980) and formal trained electrical engineer, MSEE. I bring a players and engineers eye and ear to the review. The product is well designed the controls clear the operation intuitive and easy to learn. I did scour the manual and Digitech site for every morsel of information, they only have a manual another document like an application note is needed. That being said this gadget is cool fun and a useful item. You teach it a chord progression and a start and stop time. You teach time two way click start click stop, or you add the time measure information and click start and stop but I this mode the device fits your chord to a pre set beats per measure. So far I only use the looser stop and start time and not the beats per measure method. It does take some learning to get the click start and click stop right. Whenyou do the device find all the solutions and all,the genre lights are available. When right the bass and drum sequence it plays it perfect and follows your chord progression. When wrong the play back is off the selections limited, so,you dump it and re- train it. The trio is not a fixed sequence even when a good solution is found. Ok so you are successful and you play back and then you play the chord with gusto now! When teaching its best to play a simple but complete version of the musical passage. When you are playing with the trio band you can go creative. And, the trio does an amazing thing, the device adapts to,the solution and the actual notes and chords and riffs you play. It changes the sequence in real time. .this is the next level of wow amazing! Learning the sequence and playing back a bass and drum is great and useful. Adapting to,your play in real time that's incredible. Ok what does the trio need? The foot switch is required if you want to play it at a gig! Why? The trio allows three musical passage to,be learned. So intro, body end, chorus verse bridge..however you want to think about it. The foot switch allows you to select the next passage to be played. This alone is needed for live gig. The foot switch allows another start stop. The third button allows on the fly tempo changes. This is very useful too, so plan on getting here foot switch for passage selection. What's it missing? I want to be able to store a passage solution. Once you teach it a ..harder passage I want to store and recall it, not erase and re teach it every time! The update for this is in software and should happen, not sure if it will. Let's all write to Digitech for it! There are no other things this needs! It has some guitar effect you can use during playback, it has level control for,the bass, the drum, for you its all there! Even the tempo canbe slowed and speeded up by two slow and two faster. Summary, this is a cool really new device. It's is also adaptable I real time and doesn't sound like artificial music at all. The teaching is available in two modes, loose and fixed Bpm. What else could you ask for? Nothing.. Ok I want to store passage, the midi playback, as I don't play the same passage the same over 30,20,10,5,3,2,1, years! I'd like to store version to keep, them. Great product and congrats to Digitech for making this available. MPreviews tm

  • A great creative tool

A great inspirational tool for song writers. Since I am a song writer and play multiple instruments the bass part that this pedal comes up with was surprisingly really unique. The seperate control pedal is a must. The guitar affects are questionable. But all in all very cool pedal.

  • Simple, yet tricky

This is a lot of fun and really keeps one honest as far as staying in time. It is tricky to program as you must give it something to learn without getting complicated. You must learn to play simple chords and always remember the downbeat. I try and play progressions like a bass player would, and that helps. All in all, a lot of fun.
