    D 104 Astatic Microphone.

I have used Astatic Mic's since the early seventy's. The quality of sound has been one of the best for my hobby. Lately the PPT components have suffered. Key up & dead key crunch is not the quality I want nor recommend.

  • "An Antique but Restorable"

First, I love the old Art Deco appearance of this microphone. Unfortunately the D-104's are quite out of date electronically. Frequently the original Dynamic Cartridges are shot. Gutting out the junk and replacing it with a new Electric Condenser mic element and CAT5 cable with an appropriate plug, brings it up to date.

  • G-Stand D104 Microphone

Microphone arrived early and was well packed a beautiful collection piece, extremely clean for it’s age, 9.5 out of 10. Wired it to my Tram D201 resulting in booming audio and positive radio checks from everyone I talked with just as it was designed to do with the Tram D201, perfect match I could not be happier. My vintage radio shack is looking great.

  • Oldie but goodie

For a very old gold-tone Astatic mike, it's in fairly good shape. Needs some polishing to get that showroom finish back on it, but the important part is that it works. I'll try a different, updated mike element in it, and see how it does with my modern rigs.

  • Terrific Microphone,

I have a passion for D-104's, started out in the 70's using them and have one on every radio I own. I am currently an extra class ham operator and receive nothing but excellent audio reports from them. If adjusted right they are unbeatable, and I don't overdrive mine.

  • Night Eagle

It is one of he best.......I should probably take the battery out and put it on a shelf, its that close to being brand new......but it just talks to well...

  • d104.

Astatic D104 purchased was one of the better buys I've made. Had an opportunity to hear my wife on it, it was clear, strong and easy to listen to. I'm glad I bid on it.

  • A classic that still performs

This microphone can still be a used with modern ham transceivers with a little patience and perseverance. It really depends on personal preference on the audio characteristic you want. You have a vast option of different mods on both the element and it's preamp that can be easily replaced that will fit your needs. • New Astatic D104 M6B microphone

I compared this new microphone with my vintage D104 and the difference was very slight. I set the gain on the new microphone to around "4" on the gain dial and listened to a recording that a good gentleman from Canada made of both microphones during a QSO and emailed to me as a .wav file. There was very little difference. The only difference that I could detect was the new microphone sounded just a little bit "thinner", maybe not as much low frequency response. In any case, the new microphone performed well and has that crisp SSB sound of a good amateur radio station that can get through static and QRM. Both microphones were used on a vintage vacuum tube Collins 32S-3 transmitter
