    A Great Value

I purchased this receiver to replace a Panasonic BlueRay 7.1 Surround System which no longer plays most new BluRays because Panasonic stopped providing firmware updates in 2013. The Panasonic did not decode DTS 7.1 from an external source. I love that the Onkyo Receiver will handle multiple HDMI inputs from various sources including BluRay, a streaming device such as Apple TV, Gaming systems, and Satellite/Cable. The receiver works perfectly taking the video inputs and decodes the various formats such as DTS and Dolby Digital and sending the video to my 55" HD TV. The amplifier has plenty of power to the 7 speakers and the signal to my powered subwoofer. The Receiver was easy to set up using the manual which I easily found online. I couldn't be happier and more satisfied.

Uneven quality for a well known brand

When my older Onkyo HT receiver finally died (6 yrs) I decided to get a new Onkyo receiver to go with the speakers from the dead receiver rather than buy another whole system. Unfortunately the impedance doesn't match between the two components. Old system 6 ohm, new 8 ohm. I was lead to believe that the new system would work with both impedances. Two problems arose, first I'm having to crank up the volume to compensate (especially for dialog), about twice as much as the old setup. When an action sequence happens the volume is way too freaking high, so you're constantly adjusting the volume. PITA. The second problem is that the mid-tone sounds seem to be coming from inside a cardboard box. The tonal adjustments on the receiver are primitive at best. I'm not sure if I can attribute this change in sound quality to the new receiver or the difference in speaker impedance. If the sound were clearer I would give it a higher rating. The instruction manual that comes with it will barely get you going so the advanced manual needs to be downloaded to get info on how to best use the system. There are lot of preloaded sound environments to choose from for your enjoyment. Make sure to use the set-up mic to get the speakers tuned to the room. It takes only a few minutes to go through the procedure and is well worth it in the long run. Depending on how many components you wish to connect to it it can be a breeze or a spaghetti nightmare. Choose your sauce carefully and by all means use the Parmesan liberally. The volume control is prominent on the front in case you're not sure which one it is. They should place it on the remote as a marketing feature. Considering where it's made, Malaysia (not Japan), it's on the high side price wise but then you're paying for the brand name profit margin. Big surprise...they all do it.

  • A great Home Theatre system ONKYO TX-SR444 for beginner and novice users alike.

This replaced a much older onkyo receiver with less features but great sound, also this receiver supports 4k UHD HDR10 with my tv, it has most if not all newer Dolby decoders such as atmos, and most DTS decoders as well, just too bad it did not come with DTS X but then again that's basically just a DTS version of Dolby atmos. It features built in bluetooth connect for using bluetooth devices to play audio from this unit. 7.1 surround sound that sounds just as good and vibrant as my old receiver so I am not missing any sound clarity.

  • Onkyo TX-SR444 vs Onkyo TX-SR804

Replacing my SR804 only because of 4K, I love my SR804 and it's sound the new SR444 seems very good as well, and probably will sound the same after I figure out the adjustment. I am so far not happy with the auto set-up with the mic, but I'll get there. My biggest disappointment is that the new SR444 does not have the 2 option plug ins for the DVR and the CD units electrically.

  • LOVE IT

After weeks of research of many models ( HK, Denon, Sony) I bought this one and I couldn't be happier! The sound is astounding! It's really easy to set up. And goes so loud that it can make your ears ring! I love this receiver!

  • Quick and dirty

About a month ago while viewing a DVD at home, my Yamaha receiver hiccuped and went out. In fairness, that unit was 15 years old and had operated flawlessly for the time I owned it. Tasked with the choice of fixing it, or replacing it, I opted to replace; I live hundreds of miles from any kind of service center and the costs of repair or replace pointed in one direction. I have always been impressed with Onkyo products, especially sound quality so I started a search online based on consumer reviews and arrived at this model. I am over 60, and setting up and adjusting the sound and controls was more a challenge of me settling myself down and being methodical than anything related to the receiver. Didn't take long, and it was fun. I am also now intimately familiar with the TX-SR444. Controls are easy and precise, sound quality is excellent through the entire frequency range, instructions for setup and operation are forgiving visually explicit. Very happy with my choice.

  • GOOD BUY!

The receiver handles my 7.1 surround without any issues. You have the choice of adding 2 SIDE speakers or 2 HEIGHT speakers which could be actually placed high on the wall or ceiling placement OR you can use ATMOS rated speakers. I chose 2 side speakers because it fills the sound gap from front to rear. It sounds awesome. I Use LONE SURVIVOR BLU Ray chapter 10 for sound set ups do to all the moving sound bits. This receiver also has a setup mic which is placed at the position where you sit. Then you run setup and the receiver sends audio to each speaker and sets it up. It actually detected a bad right side temporary speaker I was using and would not complete setup until I changed the bad speaker. For the money, I think its a good deal.

  • Disappointed with the product

Does not deliver the same quality sound my old Onkyo receiver did. Wish I h ad just spent the money to fix the old one. The sound is duller than before.

  • Still a great product

My first Onkyo receiver finally died after over 30 years so there was no question that I would purchase another Onkyo. So far I am happy with the new one. The set up was easy and it sounds great. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good value for their money.
