  • Brilliant, wish I had the ES-2 setup years ago.

I've been scanning 35mm chromes (slides) for decades and I've never seen the quality I'm getting out of the ES-2. I've modified it a bit to get more than a full frame using a 60mm f2.8 AF D NIKKOR and a Nikon 2x extension tube. I am also using an old Norman LH-2000 head with a small soft box. The ES-2 is brilliant. I am loving it. P.S. I also bought the 60mm f2.8 NIKKOR on eBay.

  • Good as the technology allows

The slide copier works very well. It may b a slightly overpriced as is the case often with genuine Nikon accessories, but the quality is there, albeit it is almost all plastic. The drawback is within Nikon's color negative to color positive in-camera technology (so far). The results are usually flat and of the wrong color pallet. However, if one has LightRoom, Photoshop, etc., one can massage the colors to more-or-less to where they should be. But it takes some work. Nikon is well aware of the shortcoming, so the ball is in their court if they wish to invest in correcting the matter. Otherwise the color slide and B&W negative capture/conversion is fine. Working with the appropriate Nikon camera and macro lens makes work overall easier than with other film scanners. What is lacking that can be found with some dedicated film scanners is infrared assisted scanning that can scan through micro fungus - a common problem with old slides. But right now, overall this approach makes a lot of sense.
