The Danelectro Roebuck is a reimagining of a Japanese-made MOSFET distortion pedal from the 1990s. You can find the originals in the rigs of top Nashville session players, and for good reason — these pedals were one of the most versatile dirt boxes of their era.
This pedal covers a lot of ground - and does so very well. The Roebuck works as a boost (with TONS of volume on tap) and a low or mid gain drive, and even as a lighter high gain drive. The mid control and clipping options are great for finding the tone you’re after. Not a complaint really, but it’s hard to settle on one tone as a “set and forget” pedal because it does so many things very well. Some might not like that it’s made in China, but it’s solid and well built - albeit priced a bit high for a Chinese made pedal. If you’re cool with the price tag, pull the trigger. I’d be surprised if you didn’t like it.
