Nest Thermostat
The thermostat has a lot of good features but there are two things I don't like about it: 1) I don't like that it brings the furnace fan on immediately upon calling for heat. That make it very drafty and uncomfortable until the heat exchange warms up. Let the furnace control the fan!. 2) I have two routers in the house - one is an access point for the main router. Consider a Honeywell thermostat over the Nest. Ask your HVAC tech before purchasing. Nest app is a pain.
It looks great on the wall, it's very pretty. But the app for it is TERRIBLE!!!!!! I set the time and temp for one day, then copy it to the next day - but it changed the time and temp for both days. Very frustrating!! I have gone back to check the schedule later and found that time and/or temp was screwed up again. We have several Nest thermostats and on a Monday I checked them to see why the air conditioning wasn't working and found all but two systems turned off. At home I have a Honeywell thermostat. My personal opinion is that the layout of the app is much easier to use. I set the Honeywell to be a certain temperature at a certain time and it is smart enough to start heating or cooling in advance so that it is that temperature at the specified time. The Nest will turn on and begin at that time. So I have to set it to the temperature at some earlier time and hope it is close by the time I need it to be there. I had an issue with the HVAC system and called a tech out to fix it. He said they do not recommend the Nest, but they strongly recommend the Honeywell. I agreed with him after my experience with both. Wish I would have called him first... The Nest thermostat is excessively expensive. My Honeywell was a third of the cost, and definitely better performance. But the Nest is pretty on the wall.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

poor hardware design
The base on my thermostat stopped working in less than a week and nest tech support took three days to get a replacement to me. Bear in mind, in winter with the cold weather 3 days is a LONG time. The new base doesn't fit the display very well and when you turn the wheel on the display to change the temp, it rubs against it and hard to turn it. Even though the thermostat offers some cool features, it isn't worth the hassle and the pool hardware quality. Nice unit, but....
Although I'm giving it a good review there were a couple of things that I was concerned about: 1) the grey plastic tabs that hold the wiring in the unit are cheaply made and one broke during installation bot the holder the wire gets inserted into still functioned as it was intended to; 2) there was no mention that the Nest hub required a "C" wire necessary for providing constant power to the hub. Bought used, been error since I got it
Bought used, been error since I got it. When I first received it and excitedly setup the base then clipped on the thermostat... nothing happened. Checked my wiring a dozen times. Then, a day or so later, I plugged it into my computer via micro USB cord and it lit up. Now I'm dealing with a W1 wire issue (error N23), that doesn't seem to want to go away. It's simply incredible, from installation to usage; I love this thing! I'm no HVAC expert but there are a few good installation videos on YouTube which make the installation easy. Basically: 1. Disconnect old thermostat. 2. Connect the colored wires into the Nest as displayed on the Nest. 3. Nest detects your type of heating and/or AC system. 4. You can either schedule your desired settings or simple adjust it as you want manually and it learns over time what you want. Best of all, it 'sees' that nobody has passed by recently and sets itself to "Away" and cuts back temperature settings to your "away' settings. When it "sees" you are home, it returns to your schedule. You can either configure it by the Android or iPhone application or via the home dot nest dot com website from anywhere. It reminds you to check your air filter and has lots of interesting settings but best of all for some people, you don't need to configure it b/c it learns from your actions with the device when you adjust it.
