    Do the job right

I volunteer at a community based nonprofit bicycle repair shop. This is a must have for all cable replacement and cable adjustments, (This is especially so for the old Dial-a-comp center pull brakes.) This Park tool is a bit pricy but due to its design and robustness, should last forever if used right and is not abused.

Glad I bought it- quality tool that does exactly what it is supposed too- but not absolutely essential

This is a quality tool with a slightly high price tag. It is nice to have when working on rim brakes alone, but not essential, so it's hard to rate it by stars without further explanation. If I worked on rim brakes more often, I would rate this 5 stars, but there are other alternatives if money is tight- rigging up something to hold the calipers against the rim or having an assistant help you for a few minutes, but this tool does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it well. However, I don't think it is needed for replacing or adjusting the derailleur cables as you do this in the slack position and taunt with one hand- and tightening the pinch bolt with the other is all you need- so using this tool for that in my opinion would be overkill. I am glad I bought it and it will definitely come in handy- but only occasionally. So if you are a tool junky and haven't had a fix for awhile- this would definitely do it- but if you are watching pennies, don't hock your wedding band to buy this.

  • When you need it. It’s not there. So just use regular pliers

You take forever to ship. You aren’t available when I need you for my bike building. Waste of money because regular pliers work just fine. Don’t waste your money on this tool that looks neat.

  • Tried them all…

I build and repair bicycles professionally, and I genuinely do not know how I went years without one of these. If you are adjusting brake and derailleur cables regularly, then you probably already know: the Park Tool is worth the money. Once you get the hang of the thumb lock, it’s pretty helpful, especially when you’re doing bike after bike or precision derailleur tuning. I first tried a friend’s cheap Hozan cable stretcher, with no thumb lock. I immediately went online and purchased a mid-range cable stretcher of my own. It did not grab nearly as well as the Hozan (or the Park Tool) and the thumb lock quit working after about two weeks. The steel is thinner and the serrated lip is notorious for splitting cables if they aren’t capped and crimped prior to stretching. If you want a cable stretcher with all the features and no downsides that will last forever, go w the Park Tool BT-2. If you need to save some money, then get a cheap one without a thumb lock.

  • Good, but over-priced like all Park Tools.

It does the job, but it's over-priced for what it does. There are less expensive options out there. One common reviewer complaint is that handles slip out very little effort. Nothing that a little gorilla glue can't take care of. Main complaint is the price.
