    It's a rotary magazine

When your competition in the rotary magazine department is either Ruger or Mannlicher...coming up with improvements on the design...however slight...should have been a no-brainer. Seems as though Savage cut cost corners with this magazine...along with the accu-trigger for the A22 and A17. The magazine will seat positively...if you remember to leave the bolt open and locked back. One hand for the magazine, and one for the rifle, doesn't leave an extra hand to pull and hold the bolt open manually. Loading needs a deliberate repetition of moves. New, the magazine is stiff and the rotor is reluctant to turn. A short shot of Hornady One Shot case lube will slick things up without gumming up the works internally....making loading of the magazine a lot easier. No feed-function problems. The rifle, an A22, came with one magazine. Had to purchase a magazine marked for the A17 (17 hmr) for a spare, couldn't find one designated for the A22. Would have liked to have seen metal feed lips on this magazine...wondering what the life of the polymer lips and catch/release will be.

  • Top critical review

Unfortunately it is a cheap plastic magazine that won't lock into the magazine well. Keeps dropping out.

  • ‘Revolver clup’

Love the design of this magazine. I keep two in my pocket and 1 in the gun to save time while I’m in the woods. The ones I have are the type with the spring at the rear that keeps the clip in the gun, there is a type that the model plastic keeps the ‘clip’ keeps it in the gun... this type doesn’t work at all but he spring loaded one is great!

  • Excellent product at a good price

Well, it's a Savage Arms product so you already know it's going to perform just as well as the original magazine that came with the rifle. They both perform exactly as the original and in fact, the only way I can tell them apart is, the original has a little silver dot on the back of it and these don't.

  • Better than original clips.

I’ve had a fairly significant fail-to-feed problem with the original clips that came with the A17. Two full clips in each of these new ones and no f-t-f issues thus far. I have made sure that the clips are all the way forward after they’re locked in place. The metal spring holding the locking device seems to be an improvement vs. the all plastic tab design. Maybe Savage has changed the design of clips that come with the rifle— I’m unsure about that. Anyway, it seems to be a good improvement.

  • Good Update for Lousy Magazine

I rated this magazine 4/5 stars basically comparing it to the original factory mag that came with my savage a17. This magazine is updated with the unlock/locking tab being hinged with a spring and roll pin instead of just being a molded plastic hinge. It is 100x easier to unlock and lock into the mag well with this setup. I didn't realize I was buying an updated part until it showed up and had planned on just using it as a backup. After clipping it in and out of the rifle several times I'm going to use the new magazine as the primary and the original as the backup. The magazines however are cheaply made and flimsy to me. If you own the rifle already and need an extra mag or two these are definitely work getting. I don't just go shoot ungodly amounts of rounds through the rifle so they will probably hold up but as far as longevity.20-25 years from now I don't know how they'll be. However, I have the same feeling about the rifle itself so who knows...only time will tell. I'll add a couple pictures to show what I was talking about earlier with the hinged locking tab compared to the molded locking tab on the original magazine.

  • FACTORY FRESH SAVAGE MAGAZINE

What a great rifle the Savage A17, I bought one early this year. One Problem. It is sold with one 10rd magazine. Savage loves the rotary magazine and with the A17 being a semi-auto fast rifle, you have to have at least 5 [ I have 3 now ] and you gotta buy Savage

  • Nothing better than factory mags.

They have all worked perfectly for me. I wouldn't recommend an aftermarket brand.

  • Savage mag

Fits perfect. Some say they don’t fit well. Mine works great. Holds 10 rounds with no issues. Some say you can only get 8-9 but I get 10 no problem. Will buy more for hunting.

  • Better than the First one

This magazine is better than the one that came with the rifle. They still have a way to go with this. The one that came with the rifle is difficult to load. In my opinion Savage needs to send an engineer or several engineers to Ruger to learn how to make a rotary magazine.
